The Perfect Off Road Vehicle

Yeah, that thang's got a Hemi. In fact, it's got two.

In a surprise move Sunday, DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group unveiled the Jeep Hurricane concept, a brawny off-roader powered by two of the automaker's famous V-8 engines and an answer to critics who believe the famously rugged Jeep brand is going soft.

"We haven't forgotten, nor will we ever forget, what makes a Jeep a Jeep," said Chrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche, standing next to the open-top monster at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.

The Hurricane makes clear that Jeep is not ready to abandon its off-road heritage.

The Hurricane's two engines -- one in front, one back -- combine to make 670 horsepower, and offer 740 foot-pounds of torque. It has 14 inches of ground clearance, and does 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds.

The signature feature is a steering system that allows it to turn in a complete circle in the same spot.

think the G500 or Land Cruiser is the perfect offroad vehicle and still good for on road use....both used worldwide with little or no maintenance...

I was not stating true perfect vehicle as a fact, just that this is awesome..

oh, and Deteras is a Faggio

Parallel parking would be a breeze in that thing. I'm sure it's a gas hog-2 v8 hemis. I'd like to see how its steering system works.

It would be pretty cool with that technology the hemi chrysler 300 uses, where it shuts off 4 cylinders when they are not needed!

it's a Chrysler product. enough said.

it'd be interesting to abuse one for sure. i need a good offroader. could always rip the 4.3L out of my old blazer, drop a slightly worked 350 in, lift it, and put 34s or 35s under it, but that's a lot to do. suspension alone would run $1500+, not including new rims, tires, regearing the differentials, and the engine.

MORE stuff on this monster from a big4life post.. thanks

Engine: Two 5.7-liter Hemi V-8s
Horsepower: Combined 670 hp
Height: 68.2 inches
Width: 80.0 inches
Length: 151.8 inches
What the automaker says: "Jeep Hurricane is simply the most maneuverable, most capable and most powerful 4x4 ever built."
What you should know: This is what would happen if you took a zero-turning radius law mower and bolted a couple of Hemi V-8s into it.

A central transfer case sends the power from one engine to the left-side wheels and power from the other engine to the right-side wheels.
The downward rotation of the prop shafts helps apply more downforce to all the wheels, Jeep says.

Production possibility: This is a technology skunk-works.
All of the technology is functional and the company holds a number of patents obtained during the vehicle's development, Jeep says.
