The official Ozzfest 2005 Thread.

As reported, Iron Maiden will co-headlie with Sabbath. :garza: Anthrax is also gonna hit up the main stage.

Also confirmed today were Zakk Wylde's BLS, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, and Killswitch Engage.

I figure we can all talk about it on this thread, instead of making a billion others until it comes this summer.

I'm glad to see KsE on it again. They're definitely one of my faves. I didn't even know Zombie was still in the music business. Heh.

I'd love to see Maiden. Me going this year depends on how much crap I have to wait through.

I heard that they're going to be picking through a lot of the alumni this year since it's the 10th anniversary. Any truth?

Wow, that site has no idea what they're talking about. My ignorance alarm was dinging like crazy.

Six Feet Under??

Do they still have Rasta Barnes?

I didn't mind their first album... it was catchy... but they certainly lack any real talant. Same goes for most US death metal groups nowadays. Then again, good luck finding non-Gothenberg influenced sound from anywhere near Europe.

Fuck it, other bands play,

[Chorus]Manowar kill !![/Chorus]

Still pretty exciting. The original Anthrax lineup. Some of those predictions would be pretty cool.

with mudvayne and KsE playing....Im probably going for sure....

although im going to drink 5 gallons of gatorade before going in, bringing a big ass farmer hat, sun screen, and quench gum because i almost died last year.

That SMN site has this as a tentative "likely" lineup so far:

Main Stage:
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Anthrax
Disturbed
Black Label Society

Second Stage:
Rob Zombie (2nd Stage Headliner)
Mudvayne (2nd Stage Headliner)
Killswitch Engage (Perm. Slot)
A Dozen Furies
Trivium
As I Lay Dying
Mastodon
Diecast

I don't think I see many ways to dispute it. Most/All will have new music by the time the tour comes around. Diecast is getting a lot of exposure from Century Media lately, and Mastodon is quickly gaining a huge fan base. Roadrunner seems to be pushing Trivium pretty well too. I haven't heard A Dozen Furies. Anyone know what they sound like? I'm assuming they're part of this current wave of metalcore?

I'm not real big on Disturbed being on the main stage for the 3rd time now. If they have a new record out, they should be doing their own tour (I thought their "Music as a Weapon" tours have been successful?), instead of playing a 40 minute set. Probably the same 40 minute set they've done at previous Ozzfests.

I'd like to see Ozzy perform solo too, without Sabbath. I mean I like Sabbath and all, but they played last year, and they play the same set every time. Granted, so does Ozzy sans BS, but I'd like to hear those songs again. It's been a few years.

I like the looks of the main stage except for Disturbed. I'd cut them out and give BLS more than 4 or 5 songs.

Dude I work with told me Strapping Young Lad is rumored to appear as well on the second stage, and Megadeth on the main stage. The former is likely, as I've read that as well. As for Megadeth, I think they're doing European tours this summer? I also heard that they will be doing another US tour, but not Ozzfest. I dunno.

Well, I listened to A Dozen Furies. My verdict = crap.

Also read that Machine Head is going to be touring this spring, May-June. That leaves the possibility to do Ozzfest after that tour. Hmm.

I didn't think A Dozen Furies was all that great either. They're alright, but IMO don't belong on Ozzfest and should not have gotten the spot over a couple of the other bands they competed against.

I like the idea of Trivium, Mudvayne, and Killswitch all playing. Those 3 alone would warrant me going. Not to mention seeing Maiden and Sabbath for the first time live.

The only band I really can't stand the idea of playing at Ozzfest is Rob Zombie. I just don't like his music.

If I had my way, Rob Zombie and A Dozen Furies would be scratched from the lineup and replaced with Shadows Fall headlining instead of Zombie, and Beyond the Embrace getting the other spot (too bad that won't happen).

The SMN site seems to think In Flames has a shot on the tour. I don't, but would love to see them there too.

Am I the only one who lost interest in them after Whoracle?

Funny you say that. That's the last CD of theirs I bought and I think it's their best (I don't have Jester Race though). I think Reroute to Remain was a low for them, but I like their newest album and think they rebounded pretty well.

I didn't listen to RTR. I did get through about 4 tracks of Sountrack to Your Escape though. God, what an awful record. No offense to you, of course, if you enjoy it :), but holy mother of feces.

hahaha! To each his own I guess.

Jester Race was their masterpiece. Hands down. End of story. Whoracle was good... but didn't come close to The Jester Race.

Actually, they're pretty different in style. It was that change in style that lost most of their old followers... but with the Gothenburg scene blowing up and becoming trendy, one really can't blame them.

Machine Head is opening for Lamb of God. They are playing here in Cinci in May. I will be there for sure. LOG is my favorite band at the moment and have been for a few months now. I will be seeing them open up for Slipknot in Indy on March something.

In all honesty, the lineup for Ozzfest is shit so far. Doe'snt even compare to last years, but it is all tentative as of now.

That's what I like to hear.

I'm not a big fan of The Haunted though. I saw them when they opened for Shadows Fall and Damage Plan. Not bad though.

I don't dig the last couple albums too much, but rEVOLVEr was one of the best I'd heard in 2004. Some really good tracks on that record.

YES!! Official shit has been announced!!!

Ozzfest — the king of festivals — triumphantly returns this summer to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the staggering line-up of BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The summer's premier concert festival — which has propelled many of today’s rock bands to superstardom while paying close attention to its discerning fans — will roll out July 15 in Boston and visit 26 cities by the time it reaches West Palm Beach on September 4. The Hot Topic Second Stage will be headlined by ZOMBIE and feature a preview of rock's rising stars, including AS I LAY DYING, MASTODON, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, SOILWORK, TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY, A DOZEN FURIES and more.

"I'm most proud of the success of Ozzfest," says founder Sharon Osbourne. "Everyone said it would never happen and 10 years later we are still in business." In fact, 125 bands, 238 shows and over 4 million fans later, the all-day extravaganza of music and deranged merriment is roaring louder than ever. History in the making, 2005 marks the first time metal legends BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN have toured together and also represents IRON MAIDEN's first Ozzfest appearance.

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson said, "This summer's MAIDEN touring is based on the recent 'Early Days' DVD and all the songs we do at Ozzfest will be from our first four albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. We will be bringing over our full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — only bigger… much bigger!!! We don’t know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it’s something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values."

Also debuting on the tour will be Texas-based band A DOZEN FURIES who landed their coveted Hot Topic Second Stage slot after winning Ozzy and Sharon's MTV "Battle For Ozzfest" reality series competition. Debuting last fall and lasting right up until the February launch of the fourth and final season of the Emmy-award winning "The Osbournes", "Battle For Ozzfest" is the ultimate battle of the bands, with contestants having survived 2004's grueling Ozzfest challenges.

This year, a limited number of fans who purchase OZZY OSBOURNE's first-ever 51-song, four-CD retrospective box set "Prince Of Darkness" (out March 22 of Epic Records) will be able to obtain one free Ozzfest ticket. The initial pressing of the box set will feature a precedent-setting promotion allowing fans to buy one Ozzfest general admission ticket and get one free.

Ozzfest, originally launched in 1996 as a limited two-city trek, has become a virtual breeding ground for up-and-coming bands. The renowned second stage has been instrumental in catapulting the careers of SYSTEM OF A DOWN, LINKIN PARK, LIMP BIZKIT, INCUBUS, SLIPKNOT, DISTURBED, GODSMACK and CHEVELLE. "Playing Ozzfest — twice — will always be among the highlights of our career," notes drummer Samuel Loeffler of CHEVELLE, who most recently appeared in the festival’s 2003 line-up. "Personally speaking, I was honored and somewhat nervous about sharing the stage with Ozzy, but finally felt comfortable after both he and Sharon patted me on the ass."

The heavy metal juggernaut has earned a hallowed position in the busiest tour season with a relentless commitment to its core fans and the consistency of quality they demand as their birthright. Just as the festival is committed to presenting the best music, it also provides an interactive, multi-sensory experience for concert-goers with a wide-range of attractions. The traveling show’s notorious "Village Of The Damned" — alive with tattoo artists, piercing booths, state-of-the-art video games, a wide range of vendors and much more — promises to be wickedly tempting.

JUDAS PRIEST — one of the biggest attractions on last year's tour — declared: "We were thrilled to be part of such a unique moment in heavy metal history that will be remembered forever!" Jonathan Davis — lead singer for KORN, who pounded the main stage in 2003 — added, 'Ozzy and Ozzfest are some of the cornerstones of metal. I loved playing in front of the Ozzfest crowd, the fans at those shows were f$*#ing amazing."

In addition to drawing vital hard rock acts, Ozzfest has always attracted a variety of select sponsors devoted to the tour's core fan base. Hot Topic — returning to host the second stage — will be the festival’s official soft line teen retailer. Throughout the day, Tama drums and Ibanez guitars will proudly showcase their arsenal in the Village. F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment) is on board for the fifth consecutive year as the official music retailer and will host the FYE autograph tent giving fans the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Ozzfest artists. Trojan brand condoms will also have presence in the Village as the official latex condom of Ozzfest. Jagermeister will once again bring the backyard BBQ party back to Ozzfest and prove their commitment to metal music with artist autograph signings and tons of free swag for attendees 21 and over.

No Mudvayne on the tour huh? That sucks, but still a kickass lineup. I really wish Rob Zombie wasn't on the tour though. There are so many better alternatives.

Yeah, Mudvayne and Anthrax aren't listed there. Not sure why.

This info comes from Maiden's website.

I'm sure the press release will include both those bands.

I kinda am, too. Everything I've ever heard from the band did not impress me at all. Far better thrash acts out there.
