i disagree. etiquette extends to the net. if you overhear something in real life, does that make it alright for you to repeat it as much, and to whoever, you like? of course it doesnt, since sometimes, the consequences of you doing so will be that someone will be hurt, or some other negative outcome.
at the end of the day, there are people behind the usernames, and so the things you do and say on the net should not be compartmentalised away from those you would in real life. the medium may be different, but the rules of decent, civil conduct, still apply

I totally agree. does anyone know who the girl was that gave him red? Thats not the only reason he got banned, but it looked like no one was listening to his side of it. he posted the link where he got the picture to show he didnt ''steal'' it. i think the link got deleted though. no one offered any explanation for anything, just cross words back and forth from mods to him.

Once posted on the net, it becomes "public information". This means the information is no longer confidential or that "reasonable measures" are no longer being taken to maintain its confidentiality. This of course assumes the poster is authorized to publish that information.
As far as property goes, it's still protected by copyright and trademark laws. Coke or Nike putting it's logo on it's home page doesn't mean the public is now free to use those logos for their own purposes. In that regard, the internet is like a book -- the rights to the materials are still owned by the original creators or the creator's asignee.

Linking images -- less familiar with that one, but my guess is when you link an image and combine it with other information (i.e. your EF profile is a compilation of information, not just your avatar) you are creating a "Derivative Work". You definately don't own the image, but as long as the derivative work isn't being used as part of a commercial effort or being used in a derogatory/divisive manner then chances are you'll be left alone by the true owner. Having said that, if the original owner requests that you not use their property, they can seek legal remedies if you refuse. It's a complex and probably impractical legal process unless serious $$$ or serious damage is involved though.

Both coke and pepsi have strict guidelines on how their logos can be co-located with other brands! Putting the two in close proximity is a definate no-no!!!! On a serious note, that's a great example. The Coca Cola Corporation and PepsiCo probably wouldn't do a darn thing in your example, but if you put a big swastika between them and threw-in some text about how their products let to nazism and the degredation of women you might hear from one of their lawyers.

The right to post on this board is based on following the rules of this board. One of the rules, written or unwritten, is you are not to use the images of other members without their permission. To keep doing so, even after being warned is risking your right to post here.
