The Navy says I'm Fat.

I went today for my military physical for the Navy. Their "bodyfat analysis" consisted of measuring my wrists, neck, waist, height(5'7 thats what fucked me) & weight. Apparently I am %33 bf. HA! This is so much bullshit. I don't have abs but I am in damn good shape at 220 5'7. I asked the guy if they had calipers or something else to test with and they said that this was the armed services standard!! Also added that with calipers it would probably be significantly lower but "this was policy". Fucking dumbass military. Any advice? They want me to drop down to 190, which is what I wrestled at in HS so I know I can do it but damn thats gonna FUCK all the gains I made this summer.

I wanted to join up just because I think if I went to college I would just party out the whole time, and all in all, this military is a good deal. I can't decide if I want to lose 30 pounds for the bastards. I really just want to stroll in, rip off my shirt, flex on all them fat bitches, and say "Fuck ya'll if you don't want THIS~!"

If the Navy says you're fat, then one of two things is certain:

1) You're name is Tuc Biscuit.

2) Your middle name is Fatty Fatt Fat Fatt.

i was in the Marine Corps for 4 years. here's what would happen when we'd have a weigh in.

if you looked like a fat ass, whether you were overweight or not, you got nailed for it and they'd put you on an extra PT program to make you lose weight.

other than looking like a fat ass, they'd take your height and go by some retarded chart they had that said what your max weight should be at your height.

if you were overweight according to their chart, no matter how you looked, they did the "bodyfat" test you described above. one guy in my unit was 5'6" and 180-185lbs. he always failed weight but passed measurements. we had another dude, same height, but around the 200lb mark. same deal with him. both of these guys were huge in the chest and shoulders, both built like an ox. if they would've failed bodyfat %, then it would have gone to the commanding officer's attention to see what he thought of their physique compared to weight and BF measurement.

if you failed the bodyfat measurement test, you could persue it further and go for a caliper test, or just say "ok, i'm a fat ass, i gotta lose weight." we had guys that, well, they were fatasses and needed to lose weight. extra PT for them.

we had one guy that refused to admit he was fat. this dude had a roll that hung almost 1" over his belt ALL THE WAY AROUND yet said he wasn't over bodyfat. the dude was a fat ass. he pushed it til he got a doctor to do a caliper test, which he failed. then, he just wouldn't let go, he started trying to push for a water tank test. i think someone eventually pulled him aside and tore him a new asshole, cause one day the crying for a water tank test stopped.

anyone being overweight or over 18% bodyfat could actually have it waived by the commanding officer, provided you were presentable in uniform. that never happened to anyone in my unit, but it was possible to have happen.

i'd tell them to get a caliper test and prove you are over 18% BF. if you're not, then make them give you a waiver for your weight. if they refuse, well, how bad do you want in the Navy?

I am around 18% but the limit is 22. The fact is I am NOT fat. Thats what pisses me off. True I am not shredded by any means, but I have been fat before, and itis not my current state. I am broad in the/chest shoulders like you said. I might even call myself an ox. But I have no "dunlop", as I call it (your gut dun lopped over your belt).

God damn Crak. That's a touching novel. I hope you find a publisher. You need a job my friend.

If you could do a first class PFT, they would waive your fatness too.

Crak hit it on the head. We just got weighed in for our bi-annual weigh-in. 4 guys weighed in overweight. 1 guy is just built big, but lifts to keep in shape so he was good to go. 1 guy in 5'6" and about 200-210. He's a beast. Running back for the base football team. 1 is also about 5'6" 210-215 but is fat. Just barely made measuremeant. The 4th is just fat. They put him on remedial.

If the Navy gives you shit, then fuck them. The Marine Corps gave me shit for 3 tattoos when I tried to get in. Told me they could be taken as racist. I told the XO if someone thinks they're racist, then they have the problem, not me. He signed my waiver.

I was in the Marines for seven years, six as and NCO (in other words I was running shit). The Marine Corps has concessions for people who weigh more than their maximum allowable weight. If you are over your limit, but can meet the criteria that Crak mentioned in his book, then you're good. Having said that, I currently work at a school house where entry level Marines and Sailors are trained. If the Navy has any weight standards at all, you wouldn't be able to guess it by looking around at this command. Since we're on the subject (sort of) why would you want to be in the Navy and not the Corps to begin with?

I don't agree with the war in Iraq and wouldn't volunteer for a division of the armed services that would likeley have me sent there. I am not just another warm body. The Marine Corps are the ass kickers of the service, but I'm not interested in a combat carrer because it won't give me a skill for civillian life.
Honestly though, I wanted to come out of the service witha highly marketable skill like the one I'm pursueing with the Navy. They are going to give me more education than any other branch willl, and through the navy college fund+ the GI bill, I get $50,00 for college.

I want to be a physician's assistant and the experience I will get with the Navy will be invaluable.

Yeah, that's just as well. Nobody is hiring Unix System Administrators right now anyway (my job in the Marines).

Check monster.com or anything like that.

Just because every Marine is a rifleman doesn't mean that's all they are.

This is like the BMI charts they use. It is a bunch of crap since they only look at weight and height, but not muscle.

N.A.V.Y.

Never Again Volunteer Yourself

One Rep, I have to spread K around before I can hit you with it. 6 of 7 years as an NCO? Shit, I'm opn 19 months as a Lcpl. High as cutting score for my MOS. I know it's gonna drop like a rock one day and my score will be a lot higher than the mother fuckers that will pick up along with me. Touching on what you said about the Navy's appearance...I didn't know they had a weight standard. jk.

godofthunder, don't volunteer for the military for the school only. When push comes to shove, they'll send you where they want, to do what they want, and your free school gets put on hold.

Only in the Marine Corps can I volunteer for a 6 month deployment to Iraq when they say they want 8 to go over, and get denied.

Thanks bro. I have to admit that I was a butt kicker. I was meritoriously promoted to Pfc, Lcpl and Sgt. I was the only cpl on the base with a Navy Com. at the time. Try to get on a board if. If you can't right now, just be studying for when you can.

I've worked around the Navy for the last 6 years as a civilian. I's seen people get kicked out for drinking, fraternization and a lot of other shit. I don't recall anyone being sent away for fatness. The Marine Corp on the other hand, I see then send a few a year away with nothing but a bus ticket and a copy of their SRB.

After the Village People did that song "In the Navy", this branch of the Military
lost any respect it had in the world.

Just be glad you weren't trying to pass an Army fitness test.
They would have used your blubbered ass to grease the tracks on their Tanks..

I picked up meritorious Lcpl out of MOS school for being honor grad, and have been stuck in the rank since. I'm not a big fan of boards for a few reasons. One, on the PFT I don't lock my elbows all the way out like the cock suckers look for because of a shoulder injury I had. Don't know how locking it out hurts the shoulder, but it does. Two, I'm not a strong shot on the range, although I did find out I should be wearing glasses out there. Three, too many mother fuckers are all "Marine Corps Knowledge" buffs, who have no concept on how to lead or even be accountable. They were picked on in highcshool, and once they get a little rank, take out their aggression on the people who remind them of the one's from highschool who made their life a living hell. Obviously, I'm on the receiving end, hence the bitterness. I don't plan on staying in the service, not for me in the long run, and I'll eventually pick up by default. I managed to get myself into a billet position at my shop, and my work has been on point so I get fucked over a little less than before. I feel like the guy in Shawshank Redemption, had a skill that the warden needed so he did that instead of other shit. I could revamp the entire system and make it more effective, but E-3's are mindless know nothings according to the higher ups. Just as well. The place can fall to pieces when I leave. Fucking ingrates. <end rant>

I think the Marine Corps logic is they would rather have a 4 year Pvt, pay him less, and make him do the work, then just let him go.

Rex, do you do pull with your hands facing you or facing away? It sounds like maybe facing you. You might want to try to work on the other way. That might help.

LOL im supposed to be 169 for my max weight and Im 188...I told them them fools I wasnt goin to be 169 and didnt want to be 169 and the first sgt was like well ur ripped so ur alright in my book..Butttt everytime you take the pt test even if you pass we are going to tape your bf..

On a side note why would you go to the Navy and not the AF...The AF is the best branch for active duty imo. Yes Im in the Army guard now but when I was active I did the AF and if I were to go a tive again it wouold be AF.

For us here who are not in the armed forces- can you find the routines or regimines that they use to get people in shape

you think this whole scenario would clue you in to how stupid and fucked up most people are in the military.

Yeah, it's just the tip of the ice berg. I remember sitting at MEPS, and a guy next to me was going into the Navy. We were waiting on the doc to come in to begin initial examinations. We waited a good 45 minutes, and I said "Don't recall seeing this in the brochure". Should've known it was the beginning of "Hurry up and wait".

One Rep, you guessed it. I do them with my palms in. I'll try switching it up.

oh great, another person who is just signing up for the benefits who will piss and moan if they end up getting deployed.

'b-b-b-but, i signed up for college money, not to get deployed! wwaaahhh'

if you signed up any time past 2001, you are signing up for war. plain and simple.

be happy you arent trying to meet marine or army standards.

and another thing, if you are planning on having them send you directly into the PA program, keep dreaming. there is no way in hell they are going to send any E-1 through E-4 into the program. the waiting lists are so long that unless you know someone, or you have done some high speed shit, like be a medic on a SEAL team, you can forget about them sending you.

i know E-6's, E-7's and an E-8 that have been submitting and re-submitting their applications for the PA program for the past 5 years.

just because you may meet the rank requirement, time in service, college requirements, etc does not mean you are going to get a slot.

go do BUD/s, pass that, pass seal training, pass their medic course, serve your time on a team, and then maybe you will get your slot for PA.

5'8, 254 lbs.....you think I'm too fat?

if your BF % is 30%, yes.

sorry, but i have a hard time believing they were off at MEPS by 12%. i get taped, and they have always been pretty much spot on. not off by 12%.

plus, for military purposes, there is not point in being that big. do you have any idea how hard your morning runs will be on you or doing the obstacle courses?

pOink,

Which branch did you sign up for again?

The Navy has other concerns re: size.

The main concern is called a HATCH. They are 18 inches, and most fatties (5'7" 25%BF) can't fit through them.

All ships and subs have them, they have many of them. And through the course of your workday you're prolly gonna have to fit through them many times. Without the aid of crisco or KY jelly.

I was in the Army and the 2 point tape tests that they do are ridiculous. I was at about 18% bodyfat when I joined the military, but I was thin. I didn't have to be taped. Then I went up to 220 lbs at 14% bodyfat (caliper) and they taped me at 23%?! WTF. My neck was small and my waist was too big I guess... Anyways, all I had to do was go to my First Sergeant (who was female) and take off my clothes. I had to strip to PT shorts. She said I wasn't fat and signed off on my PT card.

For us here who are not in the armed forces- can you find the routines or regimines that they use to get people in shape.
Don't take fitness lessons from the Armed Forces. Most of the training programs that are taught to the NCOs are garbage.

If the government says your fat then you are bitch

Fucking communists

Do they have them on airplanes? The Navy has a lot of those things too...

Fuck the Navy; you should join the Army.

The Army doesn't care how much you weigh as long as you can pass your tape test and your PT test.

Alot of fine Army bitches @ Ft. Sam Houston......

I was stationed in Hanau, Germany and I saw alot of retired or discharged soldiers who decided to stay in Germany rather than return to the US.

Looking back, I wish I'd done the same.

It's possible. I have some friends in Heidelberg. I was stationed on the Rock! Baumholder. Crappiest place to be stationed in the entire military (except for Ft. Hood.) :)
