The impact of vitamins and minerals on mood-stabilization

A good multi Vit/mineral complex is an extremely potent weapon in the bodybuilding arsenal, particularly due to the fact that most of us are deficient in one of these crucial elements or another.Very good post indeed.

i would like to see a study on well our bodies can actually break down vitamins. i saw a show on a waste treatment facility and they pulled out these screens with hundreds of vitamins still in tact on them. nothing more than fiber pills. good info in the post though.

I dont want to talk about vitamins here.

Five posts and already deciding for the rest of us what should be discussed here.....well, I've got about 10 posts, so my word carries twice as much weight !!!

Good post Nathan ! I've actually heard of Niacin being used in high doses to treat depression. I'm guessing somewhere over 3,000 mg per day. Can't remember the exact amount. Please don't ask me to cite any studies. I'm not that organized.

I use strong multivitamins taken with each meal. Been doing this for 4 years and I've never felt better.

Drop one of your vitamins in a glass of water and see how long it takes to disolve. A good one will break down in about 1/2 hour or less.

It's actually pretty suprising which ones preform well. Centrum used to be infamous for making it's way through the digestive tract without breaking apart completely, but now breaks down pretty quickly. Although, it's definitely not dosed high enough to really do that much good. Especially if your putting your body through the stress of regular workouts.

I think it says they are still trying to determine what works best for the general population with safety and health in mind.

True. But I'd still like to know the specific formulation that they used in the test subjects...

A better version of this test is to partially fill a ziploc with white vinegar, drop the vitamin in and knead it gently for about a half hour (or less if it dissolves more quickly). If there's anything in the bag after a half-hour, that is (generally) what will pass.

Granted it's crude, but in a general sense, the vinegar mimics stomach ph, the kneading mimics the motion of your stomach, the heat from your hand brings the solution temperature up somewhat.
