The I officially hate my job thread

Lumberg

New member
So I came in this Saturday and worked for 9 hours on this POS document that nobody wants to do. It's like a User Manual for this application that generates all kinds of reports. So I would export the reports to pdf and take screen captures of the full page so the whole report layout was there on the page (pasted into Word document) so the users could see what I'm talking about.

So today I come in the the guy in charge of the help file (which used to be me but my boss the fucktard re-assigned it to this other guy who is notorious for not getting shit done) tells me I'm going to have to re-do all the screen shots to see what the reports look like from within the application (which is the exact same only there is all the shit at the top of the screen that is basically wasted space). Thus not showing the fill format of the report, but just the top-left 35% or so of each page.

The kicker is, I showed him exactly how I was doing it on Thursday and Friday and he didn't say anything then, he waits until AFTER I produce the 41-page document.

I tried to explain all this to him but he just stoned me. He's way more senior than I so I can't tell him to fuck off, though I might when I find a new job. I so want to tell him, "fine, if you want it done your way, do it yourself."

Right after he told you that you'd have to redo it you should've been like, "Didn't you get that memo about the TPS reports?" LMAO

for those that aren't "in the know" like my own bad self obviously is, this thread is THAT much funnier because Lumberg (even though his name is from the fucking movie), is bothered by people referring to TPS reports and thinking that it is a hilarious joke.

It's not so much that I am bothered, it's just not funny.

Diverging from the TPS jokes I would like to add my agreement with Lumberg on this thread in that I too hate my job.

My job is 100% easier and better when this one user isn't in the office. The fact that this user is one of the owners is part of the issue - I can't just ignore him.

He fancies himself to be a computer savvy fellow and a gadget lover. He buys shit products thinking they will be the next big thing and then expects me to install everything and get it working, but I can't actually sit at the computer to do it, I have to do it via his hands on the keyboard and mouse and my verbal commands.
"Okay, click on that... no over more... not there - click on the icon that says 'Install' - no 'Install ' - the blue one... no up two. Okay, click OK, no OK, LEFT click OK - right there the OK button - YES choose Next. NEXT - click on NEXT."

It always starts with him calling my desk and asking if I can come to his office. His office is about 15 strides from my desk, and while walking here or e-mailing would suffice and I have made it plenty clear that I have no use for the phone, he still calls.

I need to just stop answering the phone ever - maybe if I throw it about it will break.

Today was the first day that I walked into his office and he wasn't on the phone with someone else.
So we installed his new VoIP phone that he got and the thing is total shit and he thinks it will be the next big thing to invest in.
I tried to explain to him that there are a few known companies that are poised to move big in the industry, and he happened to pick a company that nobody has ever heard of.
He countered by saying "there were a lot of people at the booth at this thing buying phones".

He has just come back from a trade show in Vegas.

This phone process and the subsequent billing issues and all of the random headache inducing shit took 1.5 hours of my day and it isn't done yet - I finally just walked away because other people needed shit done.

I have the worst fucking headache - it doesn't help that I haven't eaten and have had too much coffee.

I have my resume out to 3 different places right now and at first I felt bad about leaving, then I felt like I would leave the place better than when I came in and have them setup so that they wouldn't be screwed if I left... now I am ready to walk out for lunch and never come back.

Fucking disrespectful douchebags having me doing the most menial shit as if I'm a $6 an hour intern.

Look, i havent had a phone or working computer at my desk wince we moved offices on December 8th. Do you know how hard it is to do a social service job with no telephone?? Now today i actually have internet access but i cannot access my directory of files so therefore it is literally impossible to do my job. I also cannot print from my computer. But i can play on Elite all day which is what i plan on doing

I hear ya buddy. Big time. I am so wanting to leave these guys I work with in the lurch. But I am planning on staying within the organization and it isn't good to make enemies.

In line with hating jobs - the mailserver is eating major ass today - if it is up, then our network connection gets flooded and is useless. If the mailserver is down, then the net connection is also fairly useless for most of the people in the office since they need it to do business

The best part is that on top of all of this and people stopping by my desk to let me know that the net is down and they can't e-mail (as if I didn't pay attention to such things).

Oh well, on the good side our network connection is faster without the mail and we have a consultant here that is looking at it so that I can get back to looking at source code.

waah.

you should put a post-it note on your monitor that says "Yes I know that the server is down. We are working on it."

Then when someone comes up to your desk without looking up just point to the note and keep working.

LOL - BOFH sort of deal there!

I'm too friendly for that sort of thing - although I do anti-social stuff occasionally here, I am normally pretty good about suc things.
