The history of death metal

Seems pretty short, is this on purpose?

If not then I would get more into the symbolism and how slayer and venom brought it to the masses (show record sales), give examples of lyrics and how their 'tone' has changed over time, tell about how far its gone in europe... wiith burned down churches and murders, how it effects hardcore fans.
There is a ton of shit on the net.

seems like you know what your talking about,except no deathmetal fan really cares about which band is making the most nihilistic music.As a deathmetal drummer of 13 years,I've come to the conclusion that most deathmetal fans are fucking morons,only because they have no grasp of musicianship whatsoever.They have no fucking clue what the fucks going on musically,nor do they care.As long as there is distortion,and a fast drummer,their satisfied.As for the musicians,I have the utmost respect.They dedicate all of their time,energy,and money for the love of the music,and challenge.They are without a doubt the most impressive musicians on this planet to me.


BTW........Suffo,pyrexia,and gorguts are the best "deathmetal" bands that have been.I realize they did'nt start deathmetal,but they rule it.And don't try to bring euro shit into this,all they have to offer is blackmetal,doom,ect.........Except for maybe panzerchrist, decapitated,disavowed,and pyaemia.

All this talk of Deathmetal and no mention of Tampa? It is the Deathmetal capital after all. I had to put up with practicing next to Morbid Angel for some time while living in Tampa. It is pointless trying to rehearse at the same time as them....too much evil creeps into the room! haha. Deicide,Morbid Angel,Obituary,Cannibal Corpse - etc.. All Tampa bands.

I had a feeling Sermon would be on this thread.

Basically all death/speed/black metal IMO got it's true start with Venom, who were influenced by Sabbath, Motorhead and the like.
Venom influenced Slayer, Metallica etc., etc., etc., and so it went
from there.

Death metal got it's first start with Possessed IMO, which influenced Death and others. However Deicide, Bolt Thrower & Morbid Angel were the first real true hardcore Death bands by definition, with the sped up tempo and distorted vocals.

Big Red Cat, you are absolutely right bro, Tampa was the hardcore capital of the world in the late 80's, early 90's, NO doubt
about it.

What about the German bands Fleshcrawl, Post Mortem, Profanity and the Swedish bands At The Gates, Unleashed, Entombed. I'm aware you can't buy German death metal bands from the average music shop like you can American but then you can buy pop music from the average music shop.

What about Celtic Frost? Definite influence to many bands which came afterwards.

Oh yeah, I saw Venom and Slayer back in '84 in a small club. Slayer's crew were out on the streets handing out flyers for their show. They saw my long hair and leather and gave me and my buds promos for their show.
