The Heisman Goes To:

— Jason White, QB, Oklahoma: While he had his worst performance of the season on national TV in the Big 12 title game last Saturday night, White still has to be the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman. He has thrown for a staggering 3,777 yards on 267-for-416 passing (64.2 completion percentage) and 40 TDs versus just eight INTs on the season, and his team is playing for the national championship.

With 40TD and 8int he is a lock IMO -Please Discuss...

right guy
right position
right team

best player?

HAHA!

Timmy Chang of Hawaii has thrown for 3724 yards and 24 TD's. What's your point? The winner should be Manning from Ole Miss.

First let me say... I hate OU...

Now I said 40TD to 8int...What is elis TD to Int? 27td to 9int...what is better?

What is their record?

It is College Football's Most Outstanding Player. I think if you compare the last 5 qb's to win the Heisman and their TD to INT you will see he is a lock.

I love Eli, and he is probably a better all around QB. But it is hard to argue Elis numbers against Whites numbers. Not just yards Bro, TD vs INT.

— Matt Leinart, QB, USC: It should help that the Trojans finished the season ranked No. 1 in both polls, and it also helps that Leinart had a stellar game (22-for-38 passing for 301 yards, 5 TDs and 2 INTs) on national TV against Oregon State last weekend. On the season, he has racked up 3,252 yards and 35 TDs on 232-for-368 passing (63.04 %), to go along with nine INTs.

As I said before, I think White is still in the driver's seat in terms of winning the award. Everyone is entitled to a bad day; he just picked a really bad time to struggle. Still, his stats are gaudier than either Manning or Leinart, and his team was a dominant No. 1 all season long. Also, consider the fact that there were two or three games where he didn't even play after halftime, and the potential for him to be a runaway Heisman winner would've been there if he had played whole games.

If you separate the player from the team I think Eli wins hands down. Without White OU still goes 10-3....without Manning Ole Miss is staring at 3-8.

If I recall, MTSW ate a nice big piece of crow with his statements about Warren Sapp last year.

You're no prognosticator, dood.

Chris Perry from Michigan Bors..... Hell the guy even practices the pose..... GO BLUE!!!

White will win it, but the MVP this year is Manning. As for the best player, that should go to a player who is not even going to be there, Williams, the WR from USC.

Here is a TD vs INT break down for the last 4 Qb's who won the Heisman. I think this illustarates White will win with 40TDs and 8INt.

  • Carson Palmer 33tds and 10 ints
  • Eric Crouch 6Tds and10 ints (also had 18 rushing tds)
  • Chris Weinke 33tds and 13 ints
  • Danny Wuerfel 33tds and 11 ints
  • Jason White 40TDS and 8INTS

He is a lock, I believe.

They were all outstanding players in their own right, and NOT buoyed by their supporting cast- as evident by their strong pro careers.... and the fact that most people looking back still think they should have won that year....

It's not all about numbers...translation = Peyton Manning lost to Charles Woodson.
Ken Dorsey put up big numbers yet rode a 34 game win streak to a 5th place Heisman finish. His own teammate Willis McGahee placed 4th.

WR for PITT --- Larry Fitzgerald 1,595 yrds and 22 tds.

Even Marvin Harrison would love a year like this.

my vote goes to him

but he's from my neck a da woodz, so i got a lil bias

White will get it due to the fact that he plays for Oklahoma. Fitzgerald is by the far the best player in college football. 22 receiving tds is rididulous not 2 mention he was double and triple teamed all year. If Pittsburgh didn't have a disapointing year he'd be a lock for the Heisman

Can I chime in on the this debate...?

Fitzgerald won't win the Heisman...#1 reason being is that he is only a sophomore and the in the past ump-teen years of handing out this award it traditionally goes to seniors. And a person must remember that the voters for the Heisman aren't exactly "open-minded". Also another point against Fitzgerald is the fact that he is the quarterback of an unranked team. However, I see Fitzgerald as lock in for next season if his performance continues.

I have to agree with f4lcon...White was a lock in for the title, up to last week when they "dropped the ball" and lost in the Conference title Game. However, White has been hyped all season along with the remarkable season of the Sooners....However time is on his side with this one... Remember that the ballots were sent out in mid- November and needed to be received back by yesterday. There is a very good chance that many of the ballots were mailed out prior to the game.

But overall I would go with Chris Perry... He won't win the Heisman...but maybe he will get drafted to play with the Packers. :)

Toga darling you are beautiful and I do love a woman that can talk football (I am a Dallas Cowboys fan and I dislike the Pack & I think Favre is over-rated). But I love the tradition in Green Bay and the History, so I respectfully dislike the Pack. I believe Favre is 1-8 against the Cowboys in his career.

Back to the heisman...I think Fitzgerald is a WR not QB, but you probably know that it was just an error. I like your point on the time thing...excellent point the ballots are probably mailed prior to his bad game. Even with 1 loss the 40TDs and 8Pick will win the Trophy - IMO

:bigkiss:

very impressive post for a woman. Gotta love woman who like sports especially football. Im impressed and your point on the ballots is a very good one.

For anyone that has seen Fitzgerald play... the answer is clear. I am sure they will give it to some NFL future washout like Jason White.

I am sure we are all willing to overlook toga's minor mistake due to her great point that it never goes to a sophomore (almost never) Also cause she digs Perry :) I thnk Fitzgerald is wishful thinking because of this...

Eviscerator has a great point- they have a history of giving it to over-hyped peeps- so White will probably get the votes....

C Woodson and R Williams were the last true quality athlete's to win the award.... hmmmm a Michigan guy, and a running back.....

VOTE for Chris Perry!!!

btw-canadian hitman and toga deserve some green- but I am out for today.... I will try to remember Monday...

Eviscerator makes an excellent observation on the last few QBs to go pro after winning the heisman.

Becoming, I agree about Ricky Williams and Charles Woodson. I would also include Charlie Ward with them as far as athleticism goes. Ward never played a down in the NFL, but dominated college football in 1993 becoming Fl State's first Heisman Trophy Winner I believe.

I agree Green for Toga and the Hitman.

So when are you getting some more angles of that avtralard?

Charlie Ward didn't even get drafted.... AT ALL! I think he was only interested in playing quarterback and nobody was looking for a black Doug Flutie at that time.

Yeah like that dude from Nebraska Eric Crouch "Let me play quarterback!" what a joke....

Don't forget, The Heisman goes to the player who had the best year in college, it doesn't have anything to do with what he might or might not do in the pro's.

He didn't enter the draft!! He was predicted to go late if at all , so he chose basketball and still he makes millions. He was a 2 sport player in college, but of course you knew that DT.

Word, but if you look at the last few QBs that won the Heisman - they all (except Palmer -YET) have amounted to nothing inthe NFL.

That's true, but most of them were system qb's. The exception being Crouch, and nobody but him, thinks that he is an NFL qb. For the others you could plug any one of 15-20 qb's at that time into those offsive systems and they would have had the same success. Take them out of that system and they are average at best.

White had it locked up until last weekend. Not sure what happened to OU. The clock struck midnight and they turned into a pumpkin. He'll probably wind up with it anyhow.

Fitz won't win in it because of his year. It's that simple. If he's back next year and repeats his performance, he'll walk away with the thing easily, unless some breaks out and plays all world.

Manning? He's great, but his numbers and his wins don't add up to White's.

Perry has a great argument, but I doubt he'll get it. He didn't get a lot of consideration, due to the problems Michigan ran into when the machine was just getting rolling (the loss to Oregon, etc.)

What about Bill Snyder's plug for Darren Sproles after Kansas State ended up STOMPING Oklahoma? Sproles does have a ton of yardage and averaged like 11 yds per carry in that game. K-state got fucked in the rankings after beating OU too, but at least they get to take it out on Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
