The GI of Dextrose and Maltodextrin

What is it? Does this effect your blood sugar level? I always hear people saying to take these 2 when taking your whey protein shake.

But i also notice that these are the prime ingredients for splenda. But splenda isn't suppose to effect your blood sugar level?

So, if you're on a 0 carb diet, and you take your low carb protein shake with splenda, can you actually gain muscle without using actual carbs?

splenda uses maltodextrine as the "powder agent", however, splenda is SO SWEET that to take the equivalent of 50grs of malto in splenda you could sweeten a whole swimming pool.

For this reason, they say "0 carbs"... I remember the stuff it was something like 98% carbs, but if you need 0.5 gram per cup, well, there you have it.

In a nutshell, yes, Malto and Dextrose have GI of 100 (in the new scale, I think they were 130 in the old one), the new scale uses glucose (which is the same thing as dextrose and is also known blood sugar) as a reference point of 100... remember the GI is simply how fast a carb is converted into blood sugar, since dextrose is already blood sugar, hence its 100

Now, I not the biggest advocate of 0 carb diets (I always get fire from the Keto-crowd for that) but I think it is an agreement that carbs AFTER working out are a good idea.

In a nutshell nutshell:

Dextrose it is blood sugar, IT DOES affect your blood sugar, thus triggering insulin (which is what you want to shuttle the protein)

No, don't take your PWO shake with Splenda, you are only getting the sweet taste and that is

thanks.... So, since you're taking in so little when you're taking splenda, thats the reason diabetics could use it? Like they would have to take a ton of it for it to effect 'em?

Ok searched, each packet of artificial sweetner is 1g of carb. Dextrose and Maltodextrin should be considered straight glucose.

So i guess the only time it would be safe to take splenda would be right after you wake up, and after you work out if you're a low carb diet.

Yeah, my wife is type 2, and she uses it for everything.

Looking at our bag of splenda, a cup of splenda has 25g of malto as a filler. Unless you are taking in tons of it, it should be of no consequence. 1 tsp. does not even rate as 4 calories, which would be 1 gr.of malto.(or any carb for that matter).
