Actually it is not a 17 year wait, since there are many "broods". There are the 13 year cicadas as well. You will be probably seeing cicadas sprout up again in a few years, depending on your area.

in a way i'm glad they are gone. They are noisey critters.

I'm extremely happy that they're gone. Way too many & way too loud. I can still slightly smell the stench of the dead ones though when I take the dog for a walk in the morning....but it's gotten a whole lot quieter around here now & that's good.
