The boxing PPV tonight

One of my boys I've known and help train sometimes fought on the PPV tonight. Giovanni Segura lost tonight. Saw that shit coming. I know the guy wasn't coming in shape. He parties way to much and comes into the gym recently to workout for only 15 minutes then leaves...fuckin' kid should of listen to me and now he paid the price. He has all the tools to win but he didn't want to put the work in. I'm pissed off!!! He gave the fight away. On the other hand, I'm proud the TJ tornado came out on top. He deserves it. VIVA MEXICO!!!

After watching MMA, boxing looks absolutely ridiculous to me now, especially the heavyweights.

Watching two behemoth men walking up to each other almost completely vertical and then leaning their entire bodyweight forward on their opponent without fear of being taken down is analogous to watching TKD point competition.

Like Rickson Gracie said, boxing is a tremendous sport, but it’s not fighting.

Just sayin’

Diggin' a hole aren't you momo? It's one of the hardest and most dangerous sports you could ever be in. Tell me have you ever tried boxing? The amount of dedication and abuse you put your body through is above what most humans are able to tolerate or even comprehend. Most healthy people, I know can't last 4 rounds without gassing and that's your standard fit person. Not to mention the amount of blows you take and for how long you do take them. Unlike MMA(I train in it and respect it)you can't go for a takedown when your ass is getting lit up. No where to hide my friend. The striking aspect is the most frighting part of fighting everyone fears. Most just rather grapple or be sub'd before being hit to a pulp. Trust me. Boxing is unforgiving. What do you do when the guy infront of you takes your best power punches and walks right through them? Can you take his punches? Can you take the pain? Most aren't willing to do that. Boxing is way different in that aspect. I love both combat sports. Don't let the hype that Dana white created through the media belittle boxing get into your head. He knows boxing is world class and is only trying to market his brand of fighting. Pro fighters from both sides that actually train and compete respect what both forms fighting do in and outside of the ring. Show respect.

good fights! Cotto was dethroned!

He broke him competely. Margarito has a chin like no other. Those are the ones that are scary and get into your head. So big for a WW lb. class. The man is alpha male x 100.

In general, pro boxers are more physically talented athletes than MMA fighters. A boxer's skill set is much more specialized though.

I heard the Cotto-Margarito fight was very good. Apparently Margarito can take quite a beating and has the stamina to keep up his pace 12 rounds.

Fight of the Year so far. Cotto was shredding Margarito with beautiful counter punching in the first six rounds. However, he did absolutely no body work and couldn't slow down the pressure from Margarito. Cotto was absolutely gassed at the end of the fight. There were at least two clear rounds where Cotto was hurt to the body and it seemed to weaken him a lot. Mad props to the Tijuana Terror... what a chin!

I am now a big fan of Margarito. The HBO special on him and Cotto was good too. Margarito's brother was killed in a robbery before Margarito won a title. Very touching.

Margarito has one of the best chins I have even seen.

A good reason Margarito was able to beat Cotto was he had him fighting backing up and applied a constant pressure. Cotto becomes a whole different fighter then. Great work. Gots one of the best chins ever.

And the left punch to the body is Cotto's best weapon. He took that away with good defense and throwing endless punches throughout.

Yes. From what I heard.
Just making a point with the golf comment.

Take your #1 boxer and put him in an MMA match against a contender MMA guy and he'll probably lose.

Take your #1 MMA guy and put him in boxing match with a contender boxer and he'll probably lose.

Take either of the above two and put them in a wrestling match against a gold medal wrestler and he'll probably lose.

Take all three and put them in a scramble against Tiger Woods and they'll probably lose.
:)

That's the point, I've been making all this time.

and from an entertainment view point ...

although boxing styles vary, it's not as pronounced as watching a world class wrestler fight a kick boxer or a BJJ player fight a Muay Thai specialist.

I think he was afraid of Margarito's looping overhand right counter and wanted to keep his hands up. He was also afraid of the uppercut -- the punch that finally did him in. It's got to be demoralizing to hit a guy with all you got for six rounds and it does absolutely nothing to faze him.

Seriously, though, I'm afraid for Margarito's long term mental health. My fiance, who is a doctor, was concerned about the beating that he took in this fight. She loved the fight, though...

It's important to note that this has alot to do with the current quality pool of heavyweight fighters more so than it does the potential of the sport itself.

I don't think that anyone gets bored watching an old Tyson highlight reel.

And when an MMA fighter like Chuck Liddell comes around and is known as a knockout artist who never gets taken down, we line up to watch.

I'd tell Rickson Gracie that MMA isn't fighting either, since you can't bite and gouge eyes in it. I mean, you get me in an armbar on the street, I'm going to try to bite through your achillies tendon in an effort to get out of it. You choke me from behind, and I'm going to do my best to reach back with my thumb and try to pry your eyeball out until you let me go.

But I'm sure Rickson Gracie isn't against all rules, just as long as they are rules that work around the style that he's talented at and wants to crown "real fighting".

So right!! You get lots of these kids nowadays thinking just because they do MMA they can beat everyone up. Street fighting is another thing as well. No rules means anything. Believe me and I will do anything to win. Controlled fighting is not the same as the streets. I grew up fighting in the streets and the risk is so much more. People might get away with that shit in the rich area but come to the hood with that ego and chest puffed out...see what happens. Most likely your life.

Everyone can be beat up. Remember there is always someone bigger and badder then yourself. I've been fighting in a ring and had many on the streets but i don't go around acting like a badass just because I train. The younger generation is looking to get fucked up they way they are.

We've already concluded they're sports but some are closer to "real" fights than others....

Boxers are skillful pugilists but not as good at overall fighting.

Closer isn't gonna cut it. Add a weapon in the mix and everything changes. It's not like it use to be. Seem like if you beat someone's ass they are quick to come back and shoot you. You never know who you are fighting and what they are able to do.

I can speak from my darker years, I used my skillz to take down guys with my wrestling skills and beat them into submission with elbows and knees. I broke my heavy bag with my forearms at 17, I was practicing my forearms for football. I dropped Joey Galloway in a game. Heavy duty screws weren't enough for free form striking, I needed someone to "absorb" and respond with the bag.

Margarito get's hit a lot. Look up his fight with Clottey he was getting tagged for awhile before he broke his hand. Clottey was on his way to winning that fight. Both threw so many power punches it was crazy.

How fast was Galloway up close in person?

All mexicans have a good chin that's why when I fight them I punch them in the throat!

Margarito is still young. He has taken a lot of punishment over the years though. Hopefully he will get some big $$$ fights, retire and enjoy his success and his health.

The only thing that pisses me off is Cotto lost and I think he was the only one Gayweather would come out of retirement to fight. I am not a Gayweather fan and I really wanted to see him fight Cotto/Williams/or Margarito and I think if Cotto won Gayweather may have come back to fight him.

We all know gayweather won't come back to fight the tornado. To scared. Have to give cotto credit. He fought Margarito when all the big tittle holders in the WW division wanted no part of him. Cotto fights the best boxers out there. Win or lose he's a true warrior. The tj tornado just has the style, endurance, the chin, and power to beat a man like Cotto. Margarito in boxing years is considered old. Took many shots to the head for yrs. He turned pro at 15. Just a young man fighting grown men. Wondering when is all this gonna catch up to him. He'll turn old right in front of us watch. Hope he's alright later in life.

I totally respect Cotto too. He is a true champion and IMO this loss can be avenged. The fact he stepped up says it all about his character. I hate the politics in boxing and how some fighters wiggle their way out of fights. Gayweather is the master of that. Cotto is always respectful too. We need more like him in boxing.

I know. Boxing can get complicated. Any mainstream sport has it's own politics. Where ever big money is being made you better believe a lot of wrong things are happening. Nothing we can do about it. Just hope for more like Cotto in the sport. I curious to see if Margarito will stay true to his word of never ducking anyone and rematch Paul The Punisher Williams. I'm thinking he will. The fight needs to happen. Clottey will be taking notice as well. As for Cotto he might never be the same again. Many are ruined after such a beating. It's all mental now.

It's too bad because I think gayweather has the skills to beat Margarito. His defense along the ropes is the best I've ever seen. He will also tie up Margarito in order to rest, which is something that Cotto didn't do. It's too bad he's too much of a pussy to fight Tony, or any other tough, big name guy. Therefore the next fights that I'd like to see are Margarito/Delahoya (big payday reward for Margarito) and Margarito/Williams II. I'd also like to see Cotto take a tune-up fights against pressure fighter in order for him to learn to deal with pressure. Cotto/Mayorga would be a good tuneup for Cotto before the rematch with Margarito. Unfortunately Cotto/Mayweather looks like it will never happen.

Del la hoya wants an easy exit out of the boxing career. He's already made plans with pacman. I don't like it.

How was the wedding and reception? So you don't want to date her anymore, why? Just not what your looking for? I don't think I have time to date anyone right now with me working so much and hopefully getting my daughters back on my days off next month. I am thinking about letting two girls I know move in with me for 6 months til their place is done being remodeled. That should be pretty interesting and fun!!

Females tend to do that at wedding receptions and that's why I love them!! They all get so horny and turned on from weddings and wine!! lol
