Try it and see. Definitely go with one heavy and one light day. Lifting heavy 2x+ per week will cause you to injure yourself and rapidly become overtrained. It varies from person to person so you just have to find out what works for you. The big problem is it cuts down on recovery time. Many programs from the 70's, 80's are based around taking drugs to shorten recovery time so that you can maximize gains. Without taking the drugs your body won't cope and then you're screwed.
