When the President of the US claims "God" told him to invade Iraq it's an issue for everyone.....Stefka said:I'll admit I didn't read this whole thread.
I don't really get what the big deal is. Why should I care if someone likes the bible better than biology books?
Everyone needs something to believe in, something to focus on.
Some people devote their lives to religion, some people devote their lives to science, some people devote their lives to drugs, some people devote their lives to money, and some people devote their lives to Star Trek.
I don't care.
I think everyone has irrational beliefs - even you.

He was elected twice as President...Stefka said:Well he's just a nut case - we all knew that already though. Using religion as an excuse to be a fucktard is nothing new. But that isn't religion's fault; it's the fucktards' fault.

68% of Republicans don't believe in evolution, a generally accepted scientific fact.......
Your first assertion is that you don't care if people care about science..fair enough. According to your twice elected leader an irrational belief in a higher power got us into Iraq....just sayin' I find that dangerous.Stefka said:Um - I guess it is our fault (not "God's") that we let the jackass get elected twice (or once for that matter).
I don't care whether people believe in evolution or not. Republicans may be bad with science, but many seem to be pretty good with money (which is why they are Republican, I guess).
How is a fervent belief in the big bang theory going to get us out of Iraq?
You just seem to be bashing such an irrelevant part of a much bigger problem.

Ted Haggard had a Monday conference with your president based on his irrational belief in a deity and the 30 million followers he was able to mobilize....based on evangelical Christian Dogma..

He admitted to a three year affair with a male prostitute......
You could substitute the word love for hate in the first sentence and it would also be true.jackangel said:so much of what i love in this world is either a direct result of religion, or exists because of sensibilities that go hand in hand with a religious outlook. defining something like religion isn't all that straightforward, because something that fundamental to the general human experience requires some flexibility. in this sense, i am religious.
Is it a direct result of religion or evolutionary biology? God is nothing more than an idea that can be used to promote good or evil. I have nothing against those with faith, my brother in law was a Baptist minister and my sister has a degree in theology from Liberty University; My entire family falls into the evangelical Christian category. However, the US has a president that thinks,"The jury is still out on evolution" and uses his personal belief in God to justify wars, social policy(teaching abstinence instead of safe sex), and stand in the way of scientific progress(stem cell research).jackangel said:so much of what i love in this world is either a direct result of religion, or exists because of sensibilities that go hand in hand with a religious outlook. defining something like religion isn't all that straightforward, because something that fundamental to the general human experience requires some flexibility. in this sense, i am religious.
They should vote third party.....Stefka said:You know what pisses me off?
I hate that so many of my friends don't even vote because they say they don’t really like any of the presidential candidates...Then they bitch about how much they hate the president. Don't blame religion, blame our disillusioned youth.
