Trying to decide whether to switch from my usual favorite NIKE..........all of your opinions will help....Afterall, we are all living the FITNESS lifestyle (or at least we should be).....:)

u wear nikes :eek:

3 miles of running and the thing self destructs on your feet.

addidas rule!

I've tried adidas, but they gave me blisters like hell....I've always heard New Balance rule, but I bought a pair and didn't really care for them. I always seem to go back to NIKE, but I still don't think I've found the perfect shoe....

somewhere on the net there's a website that explains each brand and model and what feet they are best for... might be runner's world but i can't remember.

i like new balance for myself but i can't jog anymore because i seem to get ileotibial band syndrome. it sucks and i don't know why i started getting it either.

yeah, depends on the addidas u wear....u gotta break them in. i got some nikes as a p[resent but i never use them for anything intensive. i heard good thangs about dmx from friends

BUT did u hear about how air soles may cause heel damage when running? :confused:

Danielson: Actually, I have heard something about that.......I looked at shoes today---have you seen the NIKE SHOX, they are 150 bucks, but very fierce., supposedly a revolutionary idea in shoes (at least that's the sales pitch)..But, I'll check out the Reebok DMX definitely...

oops i spelt it wrong. it feels like nerve pain.

ILIOTIBIAL BAND SYNDROME or I-T
SYNDROME.
Pain on the outer side of the knee
Symptoms - pain usually increases gradually on a run; it may
cease afterwards.
Cause - This strong band goes from the muscle at the out¬
side and front of the pelvis (tensor facia latae muscle), down
the thigh to insert at the shin. Where it passes by the knee,
cushioning small sacs of fluid stop it rubbing against the
bone. The sacs or the band may become inflamed - typically
by:
running down hills;
a change in surface or training;
excessive foot movements;
running on cambered surfaces;
bow legs;
overpronation;
worn out shoes;
worn out body--(overtraining)
tightness in the band;
unequal quad strength, or leg length differences predis¬
pose you to I-T.
Prevention - make changes in the type of training slowly.
Avoid hill reps on a camber; avoid tight bends. Do the I-T
stretches; and stretch the other major muscles. Strengthen the weak quad with straight leg raises and leg extensions. Podiatrist to check if a special insert for the shoes would help.
Treatment - Attack the cause, but back off the mileage and take anti-inflammatory drugs. ICE it often. Cortisone may help relieve the bursa; or the inflamed area can be removed. To decrease both types of knee insult, don’t do stair climbing in rehab.
Remember the top end of the band--It can cause problems,
too.

Sorry to hear that Smallmovesal.....On the bright side of things---at least you can still bike, swim etc........

yeah it sucks. now i have to deal with the stepmill in a hot gym in the summer when i'd rather be out jogging. :(

no wonder i've been doing less cardio.

is that the nike with the sprin looking things on the heel? i aint been into a shoe shop for a while :(

small moves....box for cardio...it gives u bigger shoulders ;) , plus it lets u release aggro!

New Balance is about all I can find in a size 17 cross trainer...so they are my choice...only thing I have worn in years because that's all I can get my hands on.

B True

Go with Brooks, I know they are not trendy and all. I used to only wear the top of the line Nikes but that is probably why i have shin splints now. nikes are good for people 160 pounds and lighter. Brooks makes a really good quality shoe. they last like 300 running miles before a professional would expect to change them. Get the brooks beast. awesome.

IMO if you wanna look good go with Nike and such, but for running stick with a Co. that strickly makes running shoes, like NB or Saucony....I spent about 80 dollars on Adidas and the sales pitch was awsome, I ended up with stress fractures from running on them....I have since switched to NB and I love them and I only spend $60...

It depends on what you need them for:

Looks - Nike, but for running shoes, these are about the worst thing you can buy!

Running - ASIC GEL KAYANO is one of the best running shoes out there. Brooks are also good, as well as Mizunos. The Reebox DMX is another favorite of mine, but they aren't made to fit everyone.

New Balance are popular, but not one of my favorites.

funnikly enough, what i run in now are cheap pair of puma's. they also what i do everything in, weightlift, football etc...i love em :D

i like shoes u can break in to fit ur feet well :)

Did a little research on New Balance since its winning..........And, WOW they are made in America.

I thought products made in America were usually inferior to Asian made products (i.e. Nike, Toyota, Honda, Sony).

Guess not---I'll definitely check out New Balance today.

New Balance is made in america, and it is more expensive since they don't do the whole "Nike sweatshop thing"

when I was running, it was adidas, asics, or nike - all else sucked. new balance weigh a ton, and reebok are total crap (fall apart fast).
but I was doing 70 miles a week year round, so I'd go through a lot of shoes.

lifting is different, and a heavier shoe might be fine.

Asics I love 'em I have about twenty pairs! SG told me his favorite are LA Gear!:D

ILIOTIBIAL BAND SYNDROME or I-T

Dam smalls your 24 going on 80! What else is wrong with you? No wonder your hunting down TripleV. Making whoopie with a man, you would probably just fall apart!:D

I've had great luck with New Balance. I quit running years ago when the doc said my lower vertabrae were dehydrated from wear and tear.

i can't believe you wear nikes because they get poor disadvantage little kids in foriegn countries to make thier shoes. i thought you of all people would be against that.
and you told me that you lived a fairly meager existence once except for your car, nikes are one of the more expensive brands.

New Balance, they rock, when I just to valle at a hotel they only aloowed us to wear New Balcance due to all the running and we needed to feel confortable. They do last forever, the sole is sick , I have one pair that is 2 years old and the soles are still intact. Sick.

Nike sucks, get New Balance and then and only then you will know what a quality sneaker is.

was that an inside joke because nike relies on countries with severe human rights abuse issues to manufacture their sneakers

i wear Thom Mcan, utility, or whatever Target/Kmart has for $30. i prefer those yuppie boots. the kind that were designed for mountain climbing and have soles with more traction than the wheels of my car but are worn by angry white kids.

I gotta tell ya, I've tried a lot of sneakers and they're all very different.

Nike Airmax are the absolute champions. They have that air pocket and the feel when you run is outrageous. They seriously give me a more comfortable run. I've never tried New Balance but I don't care about durability. I'm looking for performance. Airmax's are light as hell and give you a nice bounce. Try em out!

Only draw back is...mine just went flat. Gotta buy new ones! That's ok, they're two years old anyways!:( :)

it depends i have narrow feet so i like nike, but my friend who has wider feet says nikes tear up her feet so she wears adidias

If it's going to be for long distance running....Saucony's are awesome. Nike is a good cardio machine shoe...but outside they wear on your feet. Adidas is a good shoe if you have wide feet.

I have the Nike Air Max's now, and I love them, but I run outside in my Saucony Grids.
