I got pocket jacks on the button, i raise 20 bucks pre flop in a 1/2 game. guy on the big blind calls me with 8 9 suited ? good call or really agressive ?

flop was 10 jack ace rainbow

i hit my set on the flop, raise all in ($70 more).. he calls with like and hits his flush on the river !!! (he had a $400 dollar stack)

did i play that well ? or did he get really lucky with really loose agressive play ?

His first call wasnt a good one....on the flop he had 8 outs due to open ended straight and a back door flush......so more outs....

You play good but he outdrew on you.....thats poker....had I had his hand I would have folded before the flop BUT after the flop with so many outs I would have called you..

I would lose that hand all day long. You played it right. If he's calling a 20xBB raise preflop with suited connectors then he's a brave man. Put him on your buddy list and you will gt your money back someday.

I thought so, he was playing his last hand though so I guess he felt lucky or something.

he should have at least put you on AK at least, which means his open-ended straight draw is only down to a 7, because he should have assumed a queen was no good (it would have given your hypothetical AK a higher straight)

you played it right

backdoor flushes are like 23:1

You just got sucked out. It happens all the time when you play really inexperienced players. They sometimes get really sticky to a draw hand because they don't get the odds/pot odds, etc.

Don't be discouraged, sometimes you lose big hands to those types, but they are FISH and you will make far more from them in the long run.

Incidentally, pocket Jacks are my favorite hand. =-)
