Tech people: when will core-duo laptops start dropping in price?

they seem to have stayed the same since their introduction in fall of 05.

i need a new laptop for the fall semester, and i want to get in while the buying is good.

probably when AMD markets their own dual core laptop chip.

I'd wait till then anyway, AMD will probably outperform Intel.

yeah. windows vista wont be out till later this year I think.

What I would do - get an external drive, back up all your files on it. Reformat your current computer, buy some more RAM. That'll probably hold you up for a couple months.

i'm going to buy one in mid-late sept.

Vista won't be out to consumers until Jan '07

They have pushed back the date numerous times already though, it was originally to come out in 2003, lol.

'07 seems pretty solid though.

Can someone explain core-duo tech?

Basically, it's two separate processors on one single silicon chip. "core-duo" is just the name for the laptop version of Intel dual core for desktops, which should use less power than the desktop ones to save battery life.

Can someone recommend a decent laptop in the 1000-1400 dollar range? I've been looking around and found a Toshiba Satellite that looks nice. Would buying a single processor unit be a waste of money at this point?

about now.

Intel finally pulled their head out and improved their front side bus.. giving AMD some real competition in terms of performance.

and for those of you who are thinking of buying dual core

DO IT. They fucking rock. I will never go back to single core and many more apps.. including games are starting to take advantage of dual core.

Nelson: Hey I'm sure it's just a phase, like when I used to stand on the overpass and drop computers on the freeway.
Marge: That's how we got our K-pro.
