What I would do - get an external drive, back up all your files on it. Reformat your current computer, buy some more RAM. That'll probably hold you up for a couple months.

Basically, it's two separate processors on one single silicon chip. "core-duo" is just the name for the laptop version of Intel dual core for desktops, which should use less power than the desktop ones to save battery life.
Can someone recommend a decent laptop in the 1000-1400 dollar range? I've been looking around and found a Toshiba Satellite that looks nice. Would buying a single processor unit be a waste of money at this point?
