Team Canada did it again guys

Oh, and I just wanna put the rest of the world on notice....

You will all be receiving ass-whippings of biblical proportions on the ice at the World Cup in August. Lemieux, Sakic, Iginla ect will be in the mix then...it ain't gonna be pretty!

Was there ever any doubt? We ARE hockey!

Bro, Canada is not hockey. I love Canada, you are great neighbors and I mean no disrespect, but hockey needs more than just Canada to survive and flourish. Hockey is awesome and it is world wide. Remember the great US and USSR rivalry? That was good stuff, and that was like 20-30 years ago.

I would say Canada definately put hockey on the map, but I would not agree Canada is hockey.

;)

Ummmm lemme help you there, there was never a US Vs. USSR rivalary in hockey ever.

The US beat them in the olympics that one time and that was it. It was a cold war thing but never a hockey rivalry. It hasn't been until the last 8-10 years that the US has even been able to compete internationally at the best leve.

Canada has always been the Nation of hockey, the biggest rivalary was always Can Vs. Russia.

Now it is Can Vs the US as the US has become stronger and the secondest best nation at hockey.

The Summit series between Can and Russia changed hockey forever in 1972.

Canada was supposed to kick them all over the ice but were shocked at the skill and drive they had. The Canadians came in cocky and out of shape and had to dig deep to win the 8 games series.

The Canada Cup that came out of that every 4 years came down for the most part to Can Vs Russia in the finals.

The best game of hockey played as said by many people worldwide was the 1987 Canada Cup final between Can Vs. Russia, that was the last time the great russian team was together and Gretzky and lemeuix were at thier best.

If you ever have a chance to see that game on tape, watch it. There hasn't been a game played like that since.

You ask any country in the world who they want to be and who they measure themselves against and it is Canada. Even crappy countries step it up an notch when they play against the maple leaf.

Canada is hockey and the standard bearer, the fact that the rest of the world is getting better and catching up/caught up is great as I agree Canada needs the other countreis to survive.

That is the problem with womans hockey now as after Can and the US there is no country close and this hurts them as a whole.

Trust me it won't be easy, I have been a HUGE Flyers fan since I was a wee little lad.

Hell I even wore the one piece cooperall in the mid 80's just like my flyers did, hell most of you don't even know what I am talking about.

But the Flyers would be there again, Calgary might take a long time to get there and they are Canadian. With that said, if the leafs had made it I still wouldn't have cheered for them.

I like the Flames, but will never cheer for anyone over the Flyers. There is still time for you to repent.

Hockey needs more than Canada, Russia, Sweden, USA, Finland, Slovakia and few other countries to survive. Actually the state of hockey isn't that good. There are 6-8 countries who play great hockey, and then there's a big cap to the followers. Hockey is also the only sport that doesn't have all the top players playing in world championships. That would never happen in soccer.
World championships should be held every other year, and in january/february when NHL and other major hockey leagues would have 3 week break.

Go Kiprusoff!

Bro that is what the Canada Cup always was, it had all the best players. It is now called the World Cup and is being played this August. It was usually played in off Olympic years.

The world championship was always seen as a nothing tourney over here as the playoffs were always on. It wasn't until they moved the date back years ago that we even sent pros there. In Canada we actually had the team that went there play all winter long, it was made up of fomer pros mixed in with youngsters who did't make NHL and wanted exposure to international game.

The last 2 olympics also had the best in the world as the NHL shutdown for it.

Hockey is too fast for most people to follow, and they can't seem to grasp the concept of icing, offsides, or penalties. It's real expensive to play as well. Gear is finally getting to reasonable prices, but still up there. Then add in the prices to play in the league.

I started playing roller hockey for the squadron team and it rekindled my desire to play. If it's not game night, then there is a 95% chance that I'm on the rink. All my physical goals are becoming oriented around the game again.

I know, I know. But world championships should be held like I said, and it could be called World Cup, rather than world championships.

And that's how it should be. :smash:

ahh the cooperall I remember that,I was a young lad of about 4 when I wore that thing

I was in late teens, my whole line wore them and we rocked, we were all huge flyer fans and even had thier attitude LOL, wore our Flyer Jersyes in practise, then after 3 years our new dumbass coach wouldn't let us wear them anymore and wanted us to go back to socks, I hated that coach

Fight?

shit I only ever wore cooperalls, back then we were so young there wasnt even a goalie, and once we got to the age where teams had goalies I went that way and just wore track pants under my pads, that fucking girdle for the socks blew

Oh, I shoud add that Canada is gonna win the World Cup this summer as well. With video replay, there will be no goals scored by a high stick to screw us this time (burn in hell Brett Hull, you piece of shit traitor!).
