T3, why isn't it perscribed for weight loss

Why isn't T3 perscribed ( I believe it once was? ) for weight loss. There's a ton of weight loss meds out there, that all seem to be appetite related. But T3 is no longer perscribed for that reason.

Any Docs out there know why? Are there any long term dangers of it. So far from all the research I've seen there's nothing to prove, and plenty to suggest against Thyroid shut down.

Or are we Bodybuilders just willing to take bigger risks here?
 
Probably for the cost. If they prescribed it, they would probably have to do bloodwork checks etc.

Well, "we bodybuilders" (which by "we" I mean you guys) take testosterone and/or its brethren alongside the t3, so it works well. But, on its own, the action of T3 will not discriminate between adipose and LBM.
 
I got to agree with paulo...I just came off a bulking cycle gained about 20 lbs.....about 2 months after PCT I decided to try and take some t3 to shed some of the fat I gained....and damn....the fat melted alright....but it took a lot of muscle with it! I chalked that one up as a lesson learned....I should have added it during the cycle...bummer!

There was also this thing a few years ago where they thought T3 might be dangerous for people with heart problems and undiagnosed thyroid issues. Because the action of thyroid hormones isn't well understood, the "medical community" looked elsewhere. We've seen this before. In large doses there were cases of toxicity. It's also true that T3 can cause an insulin spike which was thought to be possibly dangerous. So people with existing medical conditions be advised, but agreed, the bodybuilding public is a different species than the general public.
 
They do still prescribe it, just have to go to a compounding pharmacy, make it from 4mcg up to 200 mcg

people dont have it for just weight loss because people are generally ignorant, and would take it for 3 weeks discontinue and wonder why there thyroid is all fucked up.

I did a 2 week 25 mcg daily dose on my lats cycle. it makes sense to me at least, being it boosts metabolism.
