Hey everyone I am pretty new to this....but......I'm 28 5'9 240 i have lost 45bls since january. I have been eating high protein foods beef, chicken, pork tenderloins, then I have a low carb green veggys try to eat like 4-6 meals a day.

I was just dieting at first then starting a getting in cardo about 5-6 week at least 20-30 mins per session. I started lifting 5 weeks ago and starting to see some good gains. I not quit good enough to jog for like anything more than a mile or more with out haveing to walk for a bit. What a am getting at is What does everyone thing about Swimming vs. Jogging? I am tring to get really fit and as fast as I can. What I am wondering is which on is better to build muscle and lose fat?

thanks in foward everyone any help will be great

Swimming is far better. Some people say it is the best cardio in the world. If you are still a bit over-weight running is hard on the body.

Swimming is the best I think, that is all I did when I first started working out. All I do now is lift but that is due to a time factor, once I move I won't be able to come home after lifting and it works out that I will swim if my muscles aren't too tired for cardio.

But swimming will help you tune up more upper body musclses I think, at least it did for me. Also, it is far easier for people to swim fast and long distances then run fast and for long distances. If you haven't swam in a long while, don't be discouraged by how hard it is, I was doing two laps at a time in an Olympic pool 5 weeks later I was able to swim half a mile straight without stopping. Perfect the movements and form, just like lifting. Once the form is perfect, everything gets easier, a lot easier. That and it feels better then running. Who doesn't like water?

swimming is not the best choice for a bb's cardio. not even close. neither is jogging but i would utlize jogging for the muscle sparing. swimming is a full body workout against resistance (though very little) its still practically a workout. this could affect performance in the gym.

I thought he was looking for good cardio. Not Body Building.......
If you are looking for cal. burning and cardio endurance I think it one of the best. Are you a swimmer?

Hey thanks everyone......I am a really good swimmer and i live on a lake. I am looking to loose fat and gain some muscle...or just gain muscle doent matter just want to look good and feel great. I plan on doing this with the weight traing on my just cardo days? Whats everyone think?

swiming kicks ass.....your whole body in action, I tried HIT on swimming a while ago and almost fuckin drowned <dont try this again>
is the best for me

swiming is excellent if you can keep it up long enough and at the heart rate you want to be.

I can't... :) so I go with more mundane forms (same as with rowing, somehow I can do pretty much any cardio that involves legs, but back-related cardio kills me, that is problem I need to tackle).

In a nutshell, anything that you can keep long enough and hard-enough, be running, stepper, cross-trainer, cycling, swiming, rowing, rope-jumping, shadow-boxing, etc... counts as cardio

Though carviovscular wise it to is an excellent alternative for you cardio sessions, unfortunately yuor body will not burn as much fat as it normally qould by running. Without going into gory physiologic details, ask yourself this questions. Have you noticed the physique of an olympic sprinter compared to an olympic swimmer.
