Can anyone confirm that 1oz cooked Sweet potatoes has approx 7.5g carbs?

Sweet potatoes and yams are basically the same, correct? Both low GI carbs with the same caloric value per gram?

Microvawe is always the easiest...I like to bake them in the oven for 15min....

So if 1oz. is equal to 9 grams of Carbs, 1oz of Sweet Potato is equal to 36 calories, right? So, is it also safe to say that 6oz is equal to 54 grams of Carbs and roughly 216 calories?

stab about 3 holes in it with a knife microwave it for 5 or 6 min then sprinkle alot of cinnamon and nutmeg over it and put a packet of equal on it

wouldn't the packet of equal affect the GI???
WM

Equal does not really have an impact on blood sugar, so it wouldn't affect the GI.

Mr.X,

Between Oatmeal (not instant) and Yams, whats the slower, longer lasting carb source?

I would have to say oatmeal due to the fiber....

I remember doing the iodine test for starch on potatoes and sweet potatoes. Potatoes turned purple but the sweet potatoes didn't. Obviously Sweet potatoe is a better carb. From memory the most nutrious part of a plant is usually just under the skin. I prefer to scub them and bake them. Microwave if the time is short with the skin on. It is a bit of an acquired taste though. It took me 15 year in New Guinea to get used to it.
