Suspicious Delivery & tampered package?

A distant relative has an acquaintance who had a wierd experience. The dude had a package from Europe sent to his address to a different name. The postman usually just leaves small packages in the dude's mailbox, but this time the postman delivers package to the door of the dude's apartment. There is also a certified letter that the dude has to sign for. This turns out to be a legitimate certified letter concerning a business transaction the dude is involved in. Strange though, with certified letters, the dude remembers usually only having to sign a green card. This time the postman brought both a green card and a pink slip that the dude was told he also needed to sign for his certified letter. This letter was certified and not registered. After signing both papers, the postman hands the dude his certified letter and the package from Europe. There is another guy with the postman in plain clothes who watches the delivery. The package from Europe was not sent registered or certified. The package did appear to have been tampered with as holes had been punched in the envelope, so with an arthroscope-like instrument, the contents could be examined or tampered with. The dude felt it was best not to hold on to this package (that was addressed to another person albeit at the dude's address), and wrote "not here return to sender" and dropped it off at the post office.

Was the dude being cautious or just paranoid?

a good rule of thumb...never sign for anything with someone elses name...you'll can get caught holding the bag......... :mix:

I would be suspicious also. Trust your gut. When I was around 10 years old, my friend brought me into a supermarket because he wanted to steal a bunch of hacky-sacks. While he was in the aisle I went and walked around. One guy struck me as being security, but I couldn't put my finger on why. Sure enough, he caught my friend stealing hacky-sacks, and I had to wait around while they tried calling his mother. Finally they let him go and as we were walking home it dawned on me that, while it was the middle of winter with snow on the ground, the security guy wasn't wearing a jacket in the store.
So, while you may not consciously be able to say why something doesn't seem right, trust your gut. Animals have instincts, and we are animals. Trust your instincts.

He was being paranoid and cautious. I'd probably do the same thing in this case, plus go home and clean the house.
