why are these guys called "BOYS"?

anyone who puts his life in peril to go to the sand dunes has bigger balls than most of us safe at home.

Most of these soldiers are 18-19.
I never quite understood why we do that.
Except that at 18-19 they are the one segment of society that has no power to make it otherwise.
Friends were telling me last night, that only one US congressmen has a son, daughter, grandson, nephew...whatever, in Iraq.
Says a lot (not particularly good) about the elite power structure of this country.
How was it we decided kids just barely old enough to drive and vote, and too young to buy liquor, were old enough to go kill and be killed in the name of foreign policy objectives? Would we be having this war if Jenna Bush were carrying a rifle?
