I've seen a lot of people post about sunless tanners and I thought I'd offer some advice for when you fake it.
Use a silicon based hand lotion or rubber gloves on your hand when applying... the silicone helps to repel the tanner from soaking into your skin. You still need to wash your hands, but it makes it a lot easier to get off.
When tanning always avoid thick skinned places, you need to put less on your knees elbows and ankles because those places absorb the color less evenly leaving you looking blotchy.
If you shave your legs or wherever you are planning on applying the tanner, make sure you wait a day after shaving before you put the tanner on, it sounds crazy, but the skin will absorb the tanner better if your skin isn't freshly shaved.
Make sure you exfoliate before you apply the tanner. Getting rid of all the excess dead skin will let the tanner absorb much more evenly.
When applying tanner start at your feet and put on one even coat and wait until it dries, this can take up to 20 minutes for it to fully set. You should let the color develop and then reapply. That way you can gauge your shading and make it look more natural.
