Sumo Deadlifts- Who Does Them???

Texas Ranger

Guys, do any of you do Sumo Deadlifts? I've been thinking about giving them a try. How are they different from regular Deads, as far as the muscles being worked are concerned??

More hips...give em a try...

Less ROM ?

its still a deadlift, it might emphasise the legs more but dont get hung up on these things. It's not like the lower back suddenly stops getting worked.

if you're a natural sumo puller you should be able to add up to 50lbs on your deadlift if you switch... for training purposes dont use an ultrawide stance to shorten the rom

I've never done them mainly because I have the "wrong" bodytype for them..ie short arms
fairly short torso....just didn't feel right to me....

But I know guys with longer arms\taller overall who prefer them over the conventional deadlift...

As Tweakle said they can't be much different in terms of muscle involvement...it's still a deadlift...the body position is different so you will get a somewhat different muscle recruitment pattern..

I did tear my left hamstring pulling sumo...

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I feel they will work better for me. The movement feels more natural when I pull from the floor. I'm a natural ectomorph(6'4").

So that's how you tore it, huh B? Damn. Why do you think it happened, exactly? Improper form?

No idea...they just have never felt right to me. Could have been many things...including freak accident.
