Suicide

One of my best friends friends has sent her a letter saying that he is going to committ suicide. I'm not sure what all he wrote in this letter but my friend broke down. If thats not bad enough she has no way of getting ahold of him and doesnt know weather he is alive or dead. I try to help her calm down but I just don't feel that I am helping her enough by being here for her. What should I do or say I love her like a sister and Im scared that if he did fall through she will too..... please help as quick as possible.

if you honestly think its serious, take her somewhere she can talk about it professionally, i'm sure a priest would also do some good if it came down to it, who knows it might save his life too

How do these two know each other? If they're close why would she not know how to get ahold of him? If they're not close, why do you think he chose her?

Someone has to personally know this poor guy. You both need to try and calm down and think rationally to figure out who knows him well enough to get in touch with him. Good luck.

committing suicide is hard. chances are 20-1 that he either backed out or failed. i'm sure he is alive right now.

Speaking of suicide, did you know that something like 80 or 90% of suicide's fail? My theory is that the people don't really want to commit suicide, it's just a way to seek attention. It's not THAT hard to kill yourself.

nope. 80% fail becuase people use dumb methods. the stats vary depending on what method you use (gun, hanging, pills, cutting arteries, CO inhalation).

my guess is he is alive. he probably made an attempt, but it failed. he either got scared or the attempt failed.

I always thought it was the easy way out. Anybody else been bumming since the WTC disaster? I sure have been. Both of my businesses depend on a healthy economy. Keep the pills away from her if she is serious. Pills are the favorite way to try for women. Women try it more but men succeed more. Pills are less lethal than a gun shot to the head. Suicides of friends are tough so I hope things work out. Try prayer.

i don't know what the hell you're talking about. what do you consider a dumb method? It's not that they use dumb methods. It's that they really don't want to. They just want attention. If they really wanted to they wouldn't take 30 aspirin, they'd take 100.

back when i was suicidal (few years ago, when i felt i couldn't get into college, etc.) i read alot about suicide methods.

but, in response to your question about 'dumb methods' (this isn't meant as an attack btw), 30 aspirin won't kill you. you need about 25 grams of aspirin. and it won't kill you instantly. it will dissolve your stomach lining over the course of a day or two, and if your stomach gets pumped in that time period you will survive.

i'm not calling you dumb for suggesting aspirin or anything, i am just saying, if you decided 'i want to die' & took 100 aspirin, your stomach lining would dissolve, you would shit blood & you would either call an ambulance or someone would call one for you.

suicide by pills requires mixing drugs that promote respiratory failure. alcohol, barbituates and/or dxm.

dumb method - any attempt that isn't done with the intent that the suicidal person die (but rather is done for attention) and/or isn't done with research on how to properly commit suicide. most of us read about steroids before we use them. most suicidal people don't do the same for suicide methods. they just guess at what will work and what won't. it usually results in permanent physical injuries in those who want to die, and death in those who just want attention.

i agree that some suicidal people want attention. but alot of the suicidal people i know just want to die. they are fun people too. so tolerant & loving. it would be a shame if any of them actually succeeded.

ok well if someone really wants to die then it's not hard to do. and when i said 30 aspirin as opposed to 100 i was just giving an example. As in if someone was going to try to do it through pills, they shouldn't do a questionable ammount, they should take as many as they possibly can.

ok. like i said, i wasn't trying to be abrasive. i'm just saying that most people who try to commit suicide don't research suicide methods, they just guess that pill x will work. and they end up hurting themselves.

the funny thing is, too many aspirin will cause projective vomiting. you cant win with it. heh

Not a flame flick and nord, but we really shouldn't be detracting from this situation. You guys shouldn't be arguing on this particular thread. I would take all threats seriously, this person's problem is very real even if the person in question is just looking for attention. Peace.
