I couldn't handle that I'd walk everywhere..I moved out to the country as a kid and it would be normal for all of us to get wasted and walk miles and miles down the road to see if a friend was home or etc..didn't have a cell phone:/

I ended up spending the night in a motel because the traffic was so bad.

i can walk home from my office in 7 minutes...i know this because i locked my keys (including car) in the office once (ok maybe twice) and had to shoe-leather-express it home...

Yes... I was going to say that, but you beat me to it!
My record is 7 hours from Burbank to the Santa Barbara County line (45 miles or so). That was on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2009, and during a storm, and pulling a monsterous 5th wheel trailer THROUGH Burbank Airport to pick up my sister-in-law.
It's easy to take 1 hour to go from Ventura Blvd to Wilshire Blvd on the 405, which is only about 5 miles.
Dallas is bad right now because of the granddaddy of a construction project on several of the freeways to the south and southwest of downtown, and they've also confuctuated the Tollway by removing all the toll booths for some reason, leaving out-of-towners with no tolltags slamming on the brakes to try to figure out how to pay & not get a ticket.

Diesel fumes make me high... It's better than waiting for lame public transit. SoCal hasn't figured out how to run a train or a bus correctly since they did away with the Pacific Electric in the 1950s. It takes more than 2 hours to go from the Valley to West LA by bus, and there is no train. At least in NYC or Chicago, or even in the SF Bay Area, you can get around in reasonable time on public transit.
