Stress causing Negative Results

Hi Guys,

Has anyone here ever had their training destroyed by work/family related stress? If so, how did you psychologically steer yourself right back onto track immediately before any damage was done?
Going through a rough patch with money concerns etc and have definitely lost a bit of size/strength. Some friends tells me that anything that hits your central nervous system will affect your form. Lifts were poor tonight despite my best intentions, but surely you don't go from being a good lifter to a poor lifter overnight?

I went though a stressfull time last year when i had

1) just split up with my GF
2) Had a 5000 word Uni assignment to do that week
3) A 15 minute long marketing presentation to do that week
4) Had a smaller assignment to also do.
5) Had just started training for a new job and had the final exam that week

Im sure i had other stuff on my mind too but anyway, anyone of those things on its own wouldnt have been a problem but when combigned, they caused merry hell with my training.

First my appitite went and i just didnt feel like eating at all, strength and motivation quickly followed suit.

I couldnt lift shit, and couldnt wait to get out of the gym.

I know what your going through bro, just hang in there, it will get better slowly.

What helped me was i drew a list of all the things i was worried about, then crossed them off one by one as i got them out the way. That just left me with the GF problem, but once all the other things were gone, i could use that to wind myself up into doing heavy lifts.

Good luck bro.

stress sucks. i think that is a big part of not making gains. good thread. im stressed out alot and it doesnt help.

Stress throws your cortisol levels through the roof. Bad deal!! You just gotta find a way to mellow out and keep the stress levels down. We all have stress to some degree, that's just life. But if you can confront the issues causing you stress you can move forward and stress less.

one thing i dont let stress me out is work. i dont like doing it so i dont let it stress me out. but it does sometimes i guess.

cortisol

L-Glutamine can help reduce cortisol. I think a daily dose would be 3-5g per day? Can someone correct me? I've been interested in getting the powder form, anyone have a good source?

ROD555, thanks for the kind words, much appreciated.

As for the L-Glutamine, I bought some in a local store. Thats no use to you though! Yes, it definitely works well. Off steroids at the minute and kept a significant amount of my gains.

Stress will definately mess things up big time. I only say that from whats been going on right now in my life. Sometimes I get so stressed out that I can't possibly have a good workout, let alone do anything else.
