Strength without size

Hey,

I've been working out for about 4-5 months now and am relatively happy at being at 145-150 pounds at a height of 5'5.

I am now more interested in bringing all my lifts up and concentraiting mainly on strength rather than any size increases.

What would be a good program for me to start doing? I will be doing madcow's version of the 5x5 at the start of next week. But I also want to ask if there are any other programs that are good for (mainly)strength gains.

good program for strength is Westside Barbell (WSB.) a powerlifting routine will be better for you than a BBing routine if you want to get stronger and are not concerned about size

i'm 5'5" and 185-190 and i started training by the westside barbells routine. it's great. i still am pretty big but my strength has increased a ton! size doesn't really equivilate to strength because i've out benched lots of guys way bigger than me. a lot has to do with tendon strength too and genetics.

Yes, genetics does it. I am 82.5kg, but can deadlift 270kg when training for a competition and am easily one of the strongest guys in my gym despite being half their size.

Go to www.elitefts.com for your WSB information

I was amazed by some guy in my old gym about 5 years ago. This skinny black kid comes in alone and walks up to the flat bench and puts a 45 each side and does 15-20 reps. NOt bad as it looked like about his bodyweight. He threw another 45 each side and I kinda moved closer to the bench as I was afriad he'd pull it off the rack and stall out on his chest. He does about 5 clean reps and racks it... OK. Then he throws another 45 on so he's got 315 - and I quietly get a yard behind the bench because I'm pretty sure hes about to kill himself. He unracks it and slowly but cleanly doubles the weight. Size is obviously not necessary!
