Stopped drinking

This is the best thing Ive doon, I some how became a daily drinker even during cycles. I has never a heavey drinker but I did like the dulling effect it has, but it has cought up to me. Im 31 and have been drinking and smoking weed since my college days. I did'nt think I was hurting my workouts too much, But I think it was. Its been about 6 weeks now and thats the longest Ive gone since high school age, I normally didnt go more than a day with out. Now Im feeling better about myself and will continue this. I was low body fat before, but now Ive become very cut and It gives me confidence, Im thinking about entering my first BB show maybee next year. And I know I doint have chance to do it while drinking so Ill stop completlly. Has anyone else had to give up old habits? I cant wait until I cycle with out drinking, I think there will be a big differance.
 
Congrats bro! I have recently decided to end my weekend habits as well. I can't even explain how much it has helped my motivation. No more damn hangovers and fluctuating weight due to dehydration. I now only drink a few beers on special occasions. Once again congrats.

I to stopped this year. You will feel better, and your workouts will improve.

Gets to the point you wondered why you even drank and you cannot even stand the smell of the stuff anymore.

Not to mention the shit dehydrates you.
 
This is something I have been battling with!

I don't drink that often - about once or twice per week - but when i do i get hammered. Problem is I am hungover and blow off the gym and diet for one or two days just to get over my hang over!

I need to stop drinking completely, this thread is a motivation!

How do you do it in social situations where everyone else is drinking and getting loose??? That is when i crumble...

I agree Ace, this thread is great motivation. I would like to quit drinking completely, but it is really tough to do consider I am a college student living with 5 drunks. I guess its just a mind over matter issue. Sooner or later, you have to get your priorities straight, so why not start now. Can't wait to keep the workouts going completely sober. Great thread!!!!

Thanks for the comments, I like to see more people out ther like me that are quiting. I do use pot sometimes and valium, Xanax to help. Dr gave me wellbutrin anti depressant that is also helping. The funny thing is I havent had the urge to drink, been 6 weeks cold turkey. I got a drug therpist/counsler and he said Id have bad withdrawls and bad urges to drink, I havent. Im proving everyone wrong. I did not like him calling me an alcoholic, I am according to what a DR would says but so would half the country. Im taking my life back, and Im doing it all myself. I do like support from others but Im real afarid to go to an AA meeting, And personaly I doint feel the need for me to go.
 
Congrats my man. I no longer realy drink either and it is amazing how much alcohol messes with your focus. If I drink my workouts suck and my eating is fucked for at least the next day, not to mention the night of the drinking.

I have managed to cut down my drinking. Graduating college sure helped. It is so hard to quit, even though I know it would be the best thing for me to do. Booze really messes up your life.
 
I stopped drinking for 6 weeks a few months ago and couldn't believe my gains and especially bf loss. Now I have been partying alot lately but am stopping this week to start my next cycle.
 
Jackhammer, good for you bro. I wasn't going to start my first cycle until I quit drinking, I didn't see the point of subjecting myself to the stress to only take 2 steps forward and 2 back. So I quit for good except for select social occasions. One of the best decisions I have ever made..

6 months ago i gave up alcohol for what i thought was a few weeks and then i found i never needed it so i havent drunk since and ive been so much healthier since, workouts are much better without that sickly hangover feeling. Nutritionwise there is a lot less crap in my system. Personally i think the buzz after a great workout far far exceeds the feeling of being drunk.
To be honest i do socialize less but i dont miss it.
 
Way to be iron brother!! I have significantly cut down my alcohol, it just doesn't get ya anywhere. Any satisfaction that comes from it is temporary, the hangover is usually 10x worse. As for more motivation, my grandfather has been diagnosed with vocal cord, esphogial and lung cancer. He is/has been a heavy drinker all of which could have contributed!!! Obviously it is not the sole reason, but I am sure it didn't help!

Been sober for 8 months due to wife's ultimatium, had stopped before but that didn't last long. IT was either drinking or my family and now things are better than ever. The ultimatium was due to my loss of memory when drinking of what my wedding band meant. I feel lucky to have a second chance. This only worked after counceling and lots of stepping back and taking a good look at where you are going and where you want to be. Workouts have inproved dramatically and that "beer money" is now cycle money. This makes the wife and me much happier.
 
I started to lift because I joined AA. I had great gains for about a year. I started back up (only on weekends) and ended up smoking again. This has been a true battle for me. I no longer consider myself an alcoholic. I can quit drinking. It's not that big of a deal. To be honest AA saved my life. It gave me something positive in my life when I needed it. Now, I don't. The big problem I have is that I am getting ready to start my first cycle. I have no motivation. I believe it is from the smoking, now dipping and going out on the weekends. This weekend I have decided to not leave the house. No one that I live with smokes or drinks. I will lose the workout days but who cares. Next Monday I will start lifting like I never have before and start up bromo for the two weeks. Then it's on. No second thoughts! This is what I need to do in life inorder to be the person I want to be. FUCK DRINKING AND DIPPING! I AM DONE! I WILL GROW AND MAKE EVERY ONE ENVIOUS! I AM A BAD ASS AND THE WORLD WILL SEE IT! :redhot:

Honestly, booze is a $$$ waster. You can put that towards anything you've not had the $$$ to buy. It hurts your body, doesn't really give the pleasure you think it does, and when you go to bed with a hot girl, you know she's hot because you're sober.

Good Thread!!

I've done cycles in the past where I got piss drunk at least once per week and I've done cycles where I've completely stopped drinking. Let me tell ya it's like night and day. Once you start noticing how much the alcohol slows your progress down, you'll realize it really isn't worth it. I'm a college student who deffiantly misses the social aspect of it, but after seeing both sides of it, it really isn't a contest.

Good Luck to all who have decided to focus on the healthy things.
 
JackHammer, i have to say something

Good choice bro! The xanax and valium will do the trick, just like another drink, so you wont have to go thru any DT, until you have to get off the bezos, a DT many times worse than alcohol. Sorry for being blunt but the sooner you are totally off any CNS depressants the better and more REAL your improving condition will be. Ive been where you have. The only way through is letting a bad day or feeling be just that, you cant shut it down or it becomes a habit. Good luck bro.
 
If you are use to drinking, Alcoholic or not, you will go through some stages. You may seem a little bi-polar. One day might be great and the next is shitty as hell. We all have an advantage with bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is my anti-drug! LOL!

Some simple things I have learned in AA that really work are...

Live one day at a time!
Anyone can eat right and lift like a horse for one day. The same goes for drinking and in my case drinking and smoking.

Avoid old people places and things.
Many times we think that our using buddies are really friends.
I use to sell dope. Believe me once you quit selling or using those so called friends dissappear real quick. This isn't a bad thing. Use it to your advantage to sort through them and find out who is down and who is out!

Work on improving yourself and the rest will fall into place! These are life lessons for everyone....not just for the Alcoholic! I too think your not an Alcoholic. Enjoy life on lifes terms and leave the bullshit behind. That's what I am getting ready to do.

It is inspiring and uplifting to see other bros deciding to make a change. I myself have been abusing alchohol since 18. At 34 now, decided to make a change for the best and quit for good. (approaching 3 months now) I just had to face the facts. BP steadily elevating, as well as total cholesterol. As you get older and meet and get to know people that come into ours lives, you see that alchohol can be deadly. It affects everyone differently long term physically but eventually we all have to grow up and face the facts and accept responsibility. It just doesn't fit into the bodybuilding lifestyle. If some of you are considering quitting or cutting down on your consumption and need motivation to do so, read up on how alchohol is broken down in the body and you will see that too much and we are poisening our livers. To all of you who have also decided to quit I am with you and hope only the best. Now what I would give for a good night's sleep!
 
Update, still going strong, feel lot better. 6 months quit drinking, lots of extra money for gear, thanks for all the replys
 
i have been batteling it for a while,im 29 and have gotten 2 dui,drunk in public,and tested positive for breath test at my second vasap class,back to court april 1st.i can go weeks without it but when i do drink i dont hold back.
 
Great to hear Jackhammer. Good luck to you. I have given up drinking except for 2 glassses of wine a week. Started a CKD yesterday.
