stocking a bar.. what to get?

Just get a keg fridge. All college kids want to drink is beer anyways. Less chance of party goers getting alcohol poisioning too..

yeah ok so by "bar" i mean a few cabinets in my apartment.. but i'd like to know what you guys think are the essentials to have a good bar. i've switched gears from pounding beers at frats to having people over for rum and cokes, but would like to expand the selection of mixed drinks i have to offer. here's what i can think of off the top of my head to get:

-vodka (smirnoff)
-tequila (jose cuervo)
-rum (captain morgans, bacardi)
-gin (no clue.. what are some good gins??)

Vodka always runs out first. People are into Martinis now and they're all made with vodka and something else. For gin you could get Tanqueray or Beffeaters I guess. Have fun!

First off, those are horrible liquors. Low end garbage.

Vodka: Tanqueray. Around 16.99, I think. Best vodka for your money.

Tequila: Not too sure, but I know there are lots better than Cuervo. Get some Sauza Tres Generaciones. Or Cabo Wabo.

Rum: Captain ain't too bad, but Bacardi is just horrid. Get some Private Stock. Or good Jamaican Rum (I don't know many off the top of my head ... Appelton XV comes to mind, but I don't know how good it is)

Gin: Bombay Sapphire. Burnetts.

Keep in mind, these are mildly expensive, especially to a college student. But if you want a good bar, with good drinks, get a bottle of each. Keep the Smirnoff and Bacardi around too though, for mixers.

Don't forget whisky(ey), cordials, and mixers bro.

that's a good start....have some different shit to mix it with - cranberry, oj, coke, lemon juice, lime juice, tonic.

some fresh lemons and limes always good...

some liqueors/shots - Southern Comfort, chambord, peach schnapps, etc let you get a little creative...

some kind of whiskey is pretty common

get a blender, ice and some mixes and you got daiqueries, margueritas, pina coladas, whiskey sours, etc....

get a shaker and strainer and you can make martinis and manhattens....

you can do a lot with not too much stuff....

bro just go to the store and get the albertsons brand of everything. YOu're in college... it's all going to waste on stupid bitchees anyway, don't get the good stuff. Get natty light kegs and albertsons charcoal filtered vodka. Keep the Tanq in your room with some high qual tequila so u can have good T&T's and do body shots when things get heated.

I used to bartend btw. The basics would be:

1. Vodka
2. Gin
3. Rum
4. Tequilla
5. Triple Sec
6. Whiskey
7. Scotch

Thats what I had in the well usually. Now for your back bar, you could go with your Liqours like Peach Schnapps, Amaretto(I'll say Desorona for the sofisticated guy), maybe Frangellico(in case, again, FROM ZERO drops by), others. A shaker is good. Rocks, Highball, and beer glasses. Coasters.

FZ, i strictly drink Tanquery Vodka... it's hard to get better. I've realized you can only get it in the NYC/NJ area... not really popular anywhere else. Aside from Tanquery, i've gotta say Grey Goose and Belvadere(sp?) have got to be the best... Absolut is there too. Also try 3vodka. This stuff is fairly new, and by far the smoothest Vodka ever!!

Certainly. Buy an assortment of some good quality liquor, for your close friends. Then when the bottles are empty, you can fill them with Alby gut-rot. Most people won't know the difference and they'll think you're pimp for always having grey goose and Sauzo on hand. As long as it is mixed, phuck it.

I read a list of the best tasting Vodkas in a Wine Enthusiast magazine once, and Belvedere was pretty damn low on the list. There was shit like Crystal Palace above it. Odd. Must be a $25 bottle and $3 vodka.
