Sticky's...........proper use??

I just noticed that there are 3 sticky's on this board and two of them are related to football. I'm wondering why these threads are so important that they have to be sticky's. One of them is just a mod boasting about how he called a result.........would that thread be there if it wasn't started by a mod?? I doubt it.

I thought sticky's were reserved for particularly important or useful threads.........I guess I got that wrong huh.
 
Football is an athletic institution... many people here are athletes... hence, the sticky. :)

Yes you have a degree or MBA.
No you arent working on a degree or MBA.
No you dont think you are clever.

If that is the case, to statement 1 I say big deal. Degrees and MBAs are a piece of cake to get. To statement 2 I would have to disagree........and the way that you try to make others look stupid just so you look clever is testament to that.

Reckon i must be a slow learner or something.........I always thought that mods were elected because they were the most respected members who made valuable contributions........I guess this only applies to some of them.

I wonder how long Flexed can go without responding to this.........

Slice I have no fucking clue. Same with Mommakin and probably others. But I had no problems with RyanH being a mod. Yeah the guy had some fucked up ideas and sometimes made a fool of himself defending the CLintons and other communists (:D ), but I think he was fair mostly. Just following George's rules.

I am now beginning to see the problem that some people have with certain mods on this site.........I post a simple query asking why two worthless posts about football were sticky and instead of getting a considered response I get somebody trying to be a smartass. Now I have alot of respect for several mods (e.g. PLJ, BM, Wodin (gonna get flamed now)) and I know that alot of them work stupidly hard to do their job even if it makes them a bit unpopular. However, there are those that spoil it. Such is life...........the few get the many a bad rep I guess.

I guess a reasonable answer as to why those posts became sticky isn't going to be forthcoming.......probably because there is no reasonable reason for it.........just as I thought. Just some mod abusing his powers (as was making this post a sticky).

TheProject.........please note that I didn't mean that all female mods got that status thorugh posting pics. Far from it (e.g. I think Spatts does a great job.....great knowledge......works hard for the board). However, there have been instances in the past where female members suddenly became mods when they started posting semi-nude pics.

Imnotdutch, I made a similar comment about a football thread being a sticky, but that was really just out of sheer orneriness.

Things end up as stickies all the time on chat, and many times it's not for any real reason. Chat's just kind of a general free-for-all, where the smart asses reign and the insults fly free.

Personally, I thought it was funny that Corn made this a sticky, but that's me.

The only way to know why a thread was made a sticky is to talk to the mod that did it, because there seems to be no consistent rule of thumb as to what is "sticky material" and what's not.
To call it an abuse of power is overstating the importance of the chat board, IMO.

As far as female mods go, I can think of several, particularly on the women's board, that were made mods because of their knowledge and contributions, and I think it's a little insulting to make a glib comment like "they got to be a mod by posting their ass."

Just my .02.

If you are failing to see why making my post that concerned worthless stickies into a sticky is taking the rise then you need to look at the big picture and consider other people before you try to get a cheap laugh.

The way you just posted shows you are nothing but a pussy........funny how I used to respect you huh. Glad that I finally saw through you though.......explains a few things.

You've clarified, and I've clarified, and I think we're basically in agreement here.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see you hanging around in chat a lot, which may explain the difference in philosophies. Chat's a monkey house. Some people hate it, some (like myself) love it. Stupidity, nonsense, cheap shots, and jokes reign over here.

If the question were asked on, let's say, Training, about why such and such is a sticky, then I think it would be taken seriously. This isn't a serious board, with the exception of the political and philosophical threads that are here, and even then, there's always someone waiting in the wings to make a stupid joke.

I'm completely baffled by why Corn's posts show he's a pussy, but that's between the two of you.

I got some comments on some of the mods here. Firstly, I agree with u that stickies should be issues of importance and pertaining to the greater majority of the Elite community. In the case of Football threads becoming stickies, I think it's not appropriate.

Now the conduct of some of the mods here. Basically, some of them are on a power trip. Some time ago, I got into a debate with a mod on the Diet Discussion Board. This mod, in addition to resulting to personal attacks (and then, by the way, accusing me of starting them when I retaliated) also threatened to edit my posts. I'm sure you would not find this hard to believe, as you have witnessed Cornholio result to name calling. Mods, as far as I'm concerned, are just normal people with their good points and bad. Since I don't follow all their threads, I can't say if I respect them or not. But I can say that I disrespect a few whom I've seen in their bad light...and I also can say that I couldn't give a fuck about the other mods that I don't know anything about.

Let me put it like this........there are a range of people that I will take shit from. These are sually people that I have spoken to in the past. I don't know Corn........he doesn't know me. He started name calling because he couldn't handle the criticism......so he acted like a pussy. Just the sort of behaviour that you want a mod to exhibit.......cool head under fire.......uuuhhhh not.

I agree about the mods. Some I respect immensely........I have named a few above (BM, Wodin, Heavywear, Sassy, Spatts......I could name more but you get the point). Others are basically tripping on the 'power' they apparently have. These resort to childish antics when they are asked to justify what they do........

You had to kind of agree to it BEFORE they gave you the "key" to the mod washroom. :D

I wasn't talking about the photo galleries.........only platinum members can access the full size pics anyway. Long ago :), even before the sheets boards became plat access only (and subsequently non-plat access too) there were several women who posted lots of pics for members enjoyment. This was so long ago that Platinum Membership did not even exist. Several soon became mods. Prior to this time only Elite Moderators existed and were generally held in high esteem. When the idea of making just 'moderators' to help the Elite Mods in their task came about many highly respected members were overlooked (I think I remember several people mentioning that Wodin was overlooked) in favour of those that posted lots of pics (oh and some people who just posted many posts containing drivel). There was a big outcry at the time........it was ignored.
