Stealing cable internet

OK, the cable company pissed me off like a son of a bitch. They screw my bill up every month and I have to spend hours on the phone to get them to correct it. I ordered NBA league pass, they charged me for it and I enjoyed it for the first 3 weeks then suddenly it sent away. I called to find out why it wasn't coming in and they told me it wasn't available in my area! WTF, they charged me for it and I was getting it for 3 weeks! I got pissed and took my cable box and cable modem back and cancelled my service. I now have a satellite dish. I was wondering if they don't shut off my cable at my apartment (I doubt the incompetent fools will actually send someone out to do it) would it be possible for me to go buy a cable modem and just hook it up? Would the modem work as long as I'm still receiving a cable television signal?

No. The modem's MAC address has to be registered with the ISP.

Otherwise it won't pass data back and forth.

Just get a wireless NIC. If you live in an apt. then chances are good there's an unsecured WAP you can surf thru. I surf thru one of my neighbors unintentionally when I lose my own signal.

yep LOL...that's how my friends at the college i used to go to do it. They steal it from the girls next door

If that was the case, nobody would order cable internet. They'd just buy a cable modem and hook it up to basic cable.

The cable co. pisses me off too.
