Started my keto diet....

I started a keto diet on Monday and I've been taking in around 1300 calories (might be too little)....I'm taking in a few carbs (less than 10 a day)...I used Ketostix today, and it showed a moderate level...I'm gonna break down what I eat in a day...feel free to add (or take away) anything that would be necessary to get into ketosis faster....I'm planning on doing this for 3 or so weeks...what would be a healthy yet effective amount of time to stay in ketosis?

Meal 1: 2 hard boiled eggs

Meal 2: 1 cup lettuce...2tbsp olive oil/vinegar
1/2 Low Carb protein bar (1g carbs, 5g fat)

Meal 3: 1 can of tuna in water
1 cup lettuce...2tbsp olive oil/vinegar

Meal 4: 1 piece grilled chicken breast
1 hard boiled egg OR half a cucumber
1tbsp flax seed oil

Meal 5: other 1/2 Low Carb protein bar

Should I cut out the lettuce and cucumbers?

Thanks :D

Personally I would dump the lettuce in favor of raw spinach. In one cup you get 40% RDA of vitamin A and 15% of folate, and the fiber content is similar.

I'm more worried about the carb content in vegetables...I'm already supplementing with a good multivitamin...

my 2 cents

get some ala at a high dose it depending on your tolerance. drink two tablespoons of flax w/ evey meal. also eat sodium free pecans thet are high in good fat. toss those pro bars. eat ground beef eggs cheese and you'll be in ketisis in 48 hours

i also drink lots of diet coke, certs for breath, pollyo string cheese

I took 300mg of ALA yesterday before I ate my protein bar and 1 tbsp of PB...It gave me the worst headache! I'll try and chuck the protein bars, so convenient, I'm gonna miss em!

Ok so I changed it around....this should be more effective

Meal 1: 2 hard boiled eggs

Meal 2: 1 hard boiled egg
1 oz of mixed nuts *handful*

Meal 3: 1 hard boiled egg
1 oz mixed nuts

Meal 4: 1 hamburger patty

Meal 5: 1 tbsp flaxseed oil

Had 4 eggs b/c it was the only convenient thing for work today...plan on replacing it with some chicken or steak

remember dont SKIMP on the fat intake. it wont harm you or hinder your progress shoot for a tablespoon per meal. watch out for the mixed nuts they may contain alot of "sugar" so keep your :eyes: on the labels.

pm me and ill give you more depth on this diet

Actually Spinach is great. For something as strict as the Atkins diet it is perfect. I know it isn't Atkins, but any keto diet follows the induction phase of the Atkins diet to a point.

All the frozen stuff I get has 2 grams of carbs per serving and both of those grams of carbs are from fiber. On the Atkins(which I know this is not) it is very strict on how many carbs you can take in and I read somewhere on his page that carbs from fiber do not count against carbs for the day because they are used differently and will not hinder Ketosis as long as kept to low amounts. So in other words, around 2 servings a day is great

I know there is a lot of stuff out there conserning ketosis and keto diets, but I think that the induction phase of the Atkins diet pretty much tells us on Keto diets what we can and cannot eat while in/getting into Ketosis. It puts into terms what and how much of anything we can eat and should eat in a day Go to the website and read up on the induction phase and how it works and then there is a page that stated what is an acceptible food. What I do is pretty much go by the foods he has there all week and than I do my carb up day once a week. I am seeing some good results.

Ok so yesterday I had cut out the greens and this morning the sticks were purple! I'm gonna try eating spinach with a meal today to see if it affects me or not...I'm not used to eating all this fat but the great thing is I always feel full! No cravings or anything...:D
