St. Anger revisited

c-sharp minor

I stood in line to get the cd on the day it came out.

I'd been hearing the title track for a week a thought it was average.

I got the cd (which also contains a DVD of the the band performing all 11 songs in rehearsal) and listened to it while getting ready for work.

I found it hard, at first, to distinguish one song from another. Very similar sounds from song to song. I , being a shred guitar player myself, was totally disappointed with the lack of ANY guitar solos on the cd.

Needless to say, I thought the cd was one big disappointment.

I then decided to REALLY listen to the cd over the next couple of days. I have found a depth and individuality to each song that I had previously not noticed. There are some very good songs on this cd. I found myself drawn into the songs in a way which I haven't been in a long time. I believe the structure and dynamics work well with the lyric to get their point across.

The production values I'm not happy with, but I can live with that. Overall, though, I am impressed with this cd. I am sure it was very cathartic of Hetfield to thrash out like this without having to be restrained by playing as technical as previous efforts, and just friggen' ROCK OUT.

Good show boyz :garza:

Just a side note: Anyone know if those are James' 2 children at the start of the DVD while he spraypaint's the wall?

Cool I may go buy the cd then. I've heard so many complaints on it, I was going to d/l it. I can't go over to metallica's forum b/c all the normal members are fanboy who love anything that says Metallica on it. So they aren't the best people to judge it on.

You MAY want to dload a few songs before you spend your $$$.

I am finding MANY people that don't share my sentiments.

I thought the title track sound sucks cock. Then I heard the station play another song and I just about pulled my cock out and jacked off to it. So ill probably buy it. Then again, after you just blew my mind by mentioning none of the songs have guitar solos-and being a player myself-this is a VERY BIG dissappointment!

I heard an interview with them and they used some kind of new recording equipment and a style where they didn't back up and repeat and repeat they just got up and played and pushed the record button and went with it. No wonder.

Sorry, but I don't like the album one bit. I'll stick to Ride the Lightning & And Justice for all.

I felt the same way, at first I was like "WTF"? then I watched the DVD and recalled some of the riffs from the cd and now I like it quite a bit, it is better than Load/Reload to me, the production sounds like I did it in my bedroom and Lars' snare drum sounds like he is beating the shit out of a 55 gallon drum, and Hetfield plays a Baritone guitar on a few songs which give it a Staind kinda sound, and like Csharp said, I play guitar too and was fucking shocked to not hear a guitar solo!! I don't know that Metallica has ever done a song without a solo and now an entire album w/o!! anyway for 15 bucks you get the DVD too, so I say go and get it.

I hear you man. At first I hated the CD. Now, I cant get some of the songs out of my frigging head. Just gotta let it grow on you.

Listening to it REALLY loud definitely helps. :garza:

I keep thinking someone in the background is getting hit on the head consistently by a frying pan. (Drum sound puts me off) Bob Rock produced this album? What happened with the sound? Not deep enough for me and yea I kept waiting for the solos and was thinking...what the hell?! I hope I can give it a chance to grow on me. I was specting songs more in the vein of Master of puppets or Ride the lightning from what I had heard for buzz on the directions.

well geez, umm, I could end up liking DMX if I "listened to it enough times" and "gave it a chance" and basically forced myself to like it "just because" it's DMX, and like, I mean, he's like popular and stuff, so of course I can't really NOT like him, can I?!!? Dammit, I HAVE to listen to this CD over and over until I FORCE myself to even SOMEWHAT like this stuffI mean it's DMX holy shit, can I really NOT like someone who's so highly acclaimed by so many other people and who's so popular?!?! IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME!?? OMG WTF I FIND MYSELF NOT LIKING SOMETHING THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE TELL ME I SHOULD BE LIKING!!! NOOOOO!!!!! THIS CANNOT BE I MUST LIKE DMX!!! I MUSTTTTT!!!!!

same thign with me, the drums and guitar work at first through me off, then I started listening to it evberythime Im in my car, track 9 (unnamed feeling) is my fav I love that song, I still don't like a few songs on their but Im happy with it, and I only spend $10 at Best Buy

"Master of Puppets" is fucking awesome to Squat to, among others, when your energy is waning.

You can FORCE yourself to listen to any cd over and over again, and it'll grow on you. Even rap. That's not the point. The point is crap is crap, no matter how you try to look at it. :)

I never had to listen to Master of Puppets over and over again, to have it "grow" on me.

For an example. :)
