Anyone else on an SSRI or seritonin re-uptake inhibitor anti-depressant such as paxil experienced alot of weight gain in the form of fat?
I have gone from 6%bf to 22%bf while modifying my eating habits, doing insane cardio and using fat burners.
It is getting to me,I could literally fast for weeks and still gain fat.
Why do these SSRI's do this? I am thinking of t-3 as nothing has been working, what do you suggest?

Yes, Paxil is known to cause weight gain. I tried it- hated it.
Look into Wellbutrin. I'm trying it now.

PM if you want a good website for all antidepressants and what people think of them. :) :) :)

actually i'm leaner and more cut in my abs...

and i've unfortunately lost five pounds and there went my legs and arms... :(

Been there done that Houndog.

Two things you need to do.

Get off the paxil and do this with the aide of some fast acting niacine (am) and inositol powder (pm) and switch to wellbutrine.

Plus whatever OTC you prefer for tension headaches.

I did this and then got off wellbutrine since it has no real sides or withdrawal issues. Paxil can fuck you up on withdrawal.

The SSRI meds aren't known to cause weight gain . If anything they should cause minor weightloss because decreased appetite and heightened anxiety are common side effects. Prozac, specifically, is given to people who have bingeing problems because, with high dosage (60mg), it's meant to noticeably reduce cravings.
The only sides I noticed with paxil were lethargy and tiredness (which is why I stopped taking it) but I didn't notice weight gain. I guess it's different for everyone though...

Actually, the drugs often cause weight gain -- though, if you remember, when Prozac first appeared people were taking it to lose weight.

Paxil is especially notorious for causing weight gain in some patients. I have several clients who have ballooned on the stuff in the last few months. I loathe the drug for its very difficult withdrawal effects, besides the weight gain, but in some patients -- particularly OCD types -- it is often the most effective.

My SSRI experiences:

Wellbutrin made my teeth hurt like hell after a few days on it. As a kid I didn't get any dental care; consequently, I had to have a lot of deep fillings once I could afford it. Wellbutrin made things hurt wherever there were these deep fillings and crowns, i.e., most of my teeth.

Paxil didn't cause pain, but made me uncontrollably super drowsy. Zoloft has never caused the pain; but dosages in the 150+ range can cause a lot of drowsiness. But Zoloft drowsiness is one of those things that if you want NOT to be drowsy, you can get up and get a lot of things done (unlike Paxil). If anything, Zoloft will (cet. par.) reduce appetite.

On the other hand, the dental sensitivity with Hellbutrin, GREATLY reduced my desire to eat!
