Spotting?

i dunno..if JohnnyO wanted to spot me on bench, and i would have to stand real close, so my balls almost touched his cheek then yeah..cuz he might try to lick them. :D

nah id probably not..BUT i would refuse bad spotters to give ME a spot..worst thing i know is bad spotters..like you are doing incline dumbbell presses, and the spotter grabs your wrists instead of under your elbows..what the hell is that about?

Never...

Never deny someone a spot, even if they are a fat-ass, who smells bad. Gym etiquette demands it and often times you are in the reverse situation. If someone ask you to spot they are depending on you to help, If I ask for a spot he better (or she) had better return the favor....

LOL yea the wrists are wack...I fuckin hate it too if you show a little struggle and they practically rack the bar for ya...its like easy buddy lemme get a lil burn goin huh.

Yea I don't though the other day some dude denied me a spot..kinda bugged me out

Agreed. I'll spot anyone who asks.

yeah i dont know why anybody would deny someone a spot, that sounds a little weird, that would definitely make me change my opinion of the person.

I agree with heavywear on this one. About once a month I stuck training in one of the University gyms, and some kid always wants me to do 50% of his "bench" workout. I refuse simply because it is getting harder not to drop the damn bar on them.

I have once...he never asked again. I would always see him barely squeak out 315 (huge bounce and butt waaayy off the bench) then he would get a spot to single 365 and then come over to ask me to spot him on 405. I would have to put my belt on, give him a lift off (I hate doing that), and then hold onto the bar and pull about mid-way up. When we got to the top he would say "ok, two more". I finally told him that I would never spot him ever again. He wasn't happy, but two years later he still can't get 405 and 405 is now a joke to me:)

Nothing worse than the guys trying to do an upright row while I bench, I'll signal the spotter if I'm in trouble, otherwise, don't touch the damn bar.

most people that ask me for a spot, or i ask if they want a spot, generally know they will get the weight. they are just cautious. i leave the fockers that attempt more than they can handle to their friends with the wife beaters, ultra long shorts and beanie caps on.

:fro:

Exactly! I flip out when someone touches the bar. I recently did a meet and on the video my gf took, while I was struggling on my last bench attempt, I actually nodded my head yes to let them know I was gonna get it. Don't know why I did that, but I do remember many a times yelling I got it when a spotter started to move towrds the bar. They learn quick after that.

My gym has allot of idiots in it! Last week some kid asked me for a spot on a 225 flat bench, I said 'sure'... <--- This was a stupid idea!

He started his lift and couldn't get it back up after the first time it touched his chest, so I helped pull it off. Then the fucking kid looks up and says '7 more'

I fucking racked that bar in a jiffy, Christ! I took at least 40lbs of his first rep and he wants to do 7 more!?!? I simply told him to lower the weight or I wouldn't spot him. He said he'd get someone else to spot him, I watched as he did the same thing to some other guy. Except the new spoter fell for it and pulled the weight off his chest for every rep. Sure enough after the kid was done that set he added more weight...

Fucking idiots!

LOL, what an idiot. You should have let the weight sit on his chest for a minute or so. I'm sure he'd lower the weight for the next set then.

The only time I wouldn't spot someone, is if they are doing more weight then I could handle. For example, I probably wouldn't spot someone who's doing more then 405. If he loses control I probably don't have the strength to get that up without alot of his help. However I wouldn't deny him a spot if there isn't anyone bigger that is willing to help. A scrawny spotter is better then none at all.

I don't mind spotting a guy whose lifting more than I can handle if he knows what he is doing. My old training partner is a nationally ranked powerlifter with, at the time, a 525 bench. If he failed, the most you had to pull was about 10-15lbs, the rest he could get. People should have an idea of what they can lift, and not try to go too far above that, anytime you have to pull more than 10-20lbs of the lift for them, then they had no business lifting that much.
