Speeding Ticket!!!

WTF California.
I visited San Diegoin June on a Business trip.
I admit, I was speeding 87 in a 55.
I have a radar detector I normally use but it was home in Phila.
The CHP officer asked me to sign the ticket.
I requested to be told how much the ticket would cost.
To this he responded "you must go to court in August."
I replied "I live in PA and will not come back for a trial, I just want to plead guilty and pay the fine."
He responded "You must appear, or the court will send you a letter informing you of what you owe."

Cool, I'll wait for this letter and then pay the ticket.
Most states, I've got tickets in many, will disclose the fine.
Not that easy!!!
Today I recieve a letter from a collection agency
explaining that I now owe $390.00

What???????

$250 fine for failing to appear in court.
$140 for the offense.

So what do I do.

I feel like flying out to CA and trying this case.
Any suggestions..
Thanks
M.D

That sux...last month i got a ticket going 73 in a 55 zone..the cop gave me a paper with the ticket and said i can call that number in a week and they will let me know what the ticket will be...i knew a few that worked there _wound up getting the ticket ripped up...YAHOOOO!!! RADAR

Next time try this........ I found this to work very well.... Drive 55mph when the speed limit sign says 55mph You will be amazed at how much money that will save you............

well, i don't think you have much choice but to pay the ticket not do you. you missed your court date, so i think that you just better pay it and be done with it.
