Spank

Spanking is more a problem with the parent/gaurdian than child. It is a sign of a parent that is overwhelmed and can think of no other way to deal with the situation.

I posted on this before but I'll say it again....My dad beat my but when I was little, plenty of times and there is nothing wrong with me at all. I've never done drugs, I was an honor graduate, and I'm going to college now and am on the deans list. I'm not messd up mentally because of geting spankd or anything so whats the problem with it?

Now...I do have a problem with ppl who BEAT their children. Extention cords are not cool, and neither are fist or bruises. I also don't like to see a kid smackd in the mouth, but then again they probably deserved it.

if you believe the Bible. it says spare the rod spoil the child.

having said that i believe it to be very important to have the child believe that all the anger and evil of corporal punishment should be manifested in the object that is used for it. i would not hit my kid, but i would use a paddle or belt or something that is soley used for punishment, and would never be brought out otherwise. that way the object takes the responsibility for the punishment and it represents the punishment, not an abusive parent.

Boy u must be hopin for some stupid kids if u think that they're gonna think "Daddy isnt bad , he loves us , the paddle is bad".

you got a better alternative? and btw thats what every parent in the ministry that im involved with does, adn they all have very obedient kids. getting out the paddle would put fear in them

Yeh I do , try REASONIN with them , and to those who say , how do u reason with a toddler who cant speak , I say TRY. Sure the kids are obedient , uve put the fear of God ('scuse the pun) into them. But as Yoda says: fear turns into anger - fucked you will be. Kids are great , stop hittin em , start lovin em.

.

I think it is fairly well accepted by scholars that the "rod" represents God's authority and/or the word of God (the scriptures) - not an actual stick used for beating.

Likewise references in the Bible (primarily the Old Testament) to "sticks" refers to scriptures, since the books of the Bible were contained on scrolls - which were parchment and other forms of paper wound up on sticks or rods. Many Jewish synagoges still read from the Torah, Pentatuch (original 5 books of Moses) and the Targums, and are still maintained in scrolls that are rolled up on spindles or sticks.
