Someone explain windsprints to me?

windsprints is just a general term used to describe any repetative sprinting.

Sprinting is running at 85-100% of your top speed for a short period of time. Usually 100-300 meters but sometimes as short as 40-50 or up to 400-600.

windsprints are similar to a fartlek workout, however you typically "sprint" faster and recover with a slower pace.

I do windspring workouts on a football field. I sprint 100-120 meters and then jog the end zone and back a couple times to recover. My recovery period is usually 45secs to a minute but it can go longer if needed because the focus of the workout is on the sprint. The goal is to really stretch your fast twitch muscle fibers and push your heart rate as close to its max as possible.

I wouldn't say that windsprints are good for overall cardiovascular conditioning or fat loss. They are used to work on top speed.

In Hockey we would do lightning drills. Basiclly a full out sprint to the lines and back and forth till we got to the end.

They are killer! And I mean they will kill ya! heheh

anaerobic activity that does not catabolize muscle unless glycogen, creatine, and ATP stores are very low to begin with. Can be done on an empty stomach, but don't go overboard. I prefer to do them towards the end of the day, I know it sounds weird but my energy builds as the day goes on, I am wired by midnight.
