Some Please Help!!! Need advice from peeps who work out first thing in the morning!

I need some advice here guys. I am mid-cycle right now (it has been excellent) until ... uh .. my freakin job got in the way BIG TIME. As it stands right now, I am under the gun at work and will be for the next 3 weeks! As you can imagine this is putting a huge dent in my cycle. My day literally starts at 6 in the morning, and I am at work til midnight most nights. I am responsible for a large group of people at work, and dont get to even touch my work in the day until around 5 in the evening (when I should be going home) becuase I am so busy with my group everyday. This is very rare with my work, but COULDNT BE WORSE TIMING! Just a fast appraoching deadline.

I am at the point now, where I am contemplating stopping my cycle, and re-running it when things cool down at work, as I am harldy getting enough time to squeeze my workouts in and cook the meals I need etc. This is really fuckin frustrating me to no end right now, and stressing me out. I havent hopped on a cycle in over 1 year, so I was really looking forward to everything going awesome (which it has been thus far) .. then this happens! Fuck! I am at the point where I was thinking of quiting my job, so I could run my cycle properly! hahahaha ?>??lol wtf? I actually love my job though ... just not when its fuckin with my cycle. I am 3 1/2 weeks into a short 6 or 7 weeker.

So ... in an attempt to try to salvage this cycle and not have to re-start it, I am thikning that the only place I can take advantage of time, is by doing my workouts in the morning! The thing is ... I have never worked out in the am before breakfast, the only thing that I have done that early was cardio or windsprints.

So can someone who trains in the morning before work tell me how you do it? A few of the Qs I have are ..

When do you train?

What do you eat for pre workout? When I workout in the evenings, I eat a small protein and carb meal 1 hr before training. OBviously I dont want to wake up 1 hr before going to the gym in the am just to eat my meal. I dont want my workouts to suffer, from the night time fasting ... so I was thinking simple carbs and lots of em. i.e. dextrose/koolaid, before AND during my workouts, to give me strength and energy fast.

Also, how long until you wake up are fully awake and start your workouts? Is there any unwritten rule here? Or can I role out of bed, grab a shake, and hit the gym?

I know that my body is used to training in the evenings, and that my workouts will likely suffer a little bit due to the no meals overnight, but I am willing to give it a shot. Can you please send me some tips pointers on training this early in the morning if you have ever had to do it?

Many many thanks!

Mavy

I should let you guys know .. that I have been training in the evening, (afternoons on weekends) for YEARS now. This will be a big shock to me. Thats why I am looking for any tips as I am planning on starting this tomorrow or maybe Friday.

First off you never answered my dbol var question...anyway. I have always, except on occasion, worked out in the morning, about 6:00 a.m. I think it is the way to go. You wake up, take a couple supps drink a shake and go. Get all your gear (clothes, food, supps ect...) set up the night before so you don't have to think to much when you roll out of bed. Keep your supps and shake to a minimum. You don't want to much in your belly when your working out. I wpould avoid high sugar carbs in the morning too, that will set yourself up for a major crash. Go with some coffee to sip on while you work out and don't forget to hydrate yourself during your workout too. Remember when you wake up your dehydrated ( that's why you feel and look tighter in the morning). By the time you get to the gym you should be pretty alert from you initial activity, but if I were you I would start with some abdominal and lower back work to get your core warm (less injuries).
The great thing about this whole change for you is that it will really help you get the max out of your cycle. The fact that you have been training in the evening for years means your body has adapted to that time frame. When you start in the morning it will be tough but you will also be shocking the hell out of your body...which means it has to adapt. Adaptation means growth!!!! So, really this is a blessing in disguise. Just stay tough, work through it and focus on the positive aspects of your situation.

JAT gave great advice...especially about the shock to your body inducing some new gains...my advice would be to make a shake right before bed and set your alarm to wake up in the middle of the night..keep your shake in a small cooler right next to your bed..slug it down at 2 or 3AM...and back to sleep you go...the whole process takes about 30 seconds....in the AM....make another shake..a GREAT preworkout shake is COLD coffee..I actually keep some brewed coffee in the fridge for this purpose...use about 6 oz coffee, 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, 1.5 scoops chocolate protein powder and some ice...blend and go...low carbs and tastes like coffee milkshake...pop an ephedra with it and youll be ready to tear it up...all this coming from a guy who usually hates training in the AM..so give it a try!! :coffee: :p

Hey Mavy,

The only time I get to workout in the morning is sometimes on Fridays since it's my free day. Training at the proper time have a huge impact on performance, not only due to energy reserves (glycogen/carbs) but mainly due to neuro factors (CNS).

Personally, even when I sleep only 4 hours at night, wake up at 7am and workout after work at 6pm I get better workouts than if I will train on Friday morning or noon (even if I sleep 10 hours the night before and am waked up 4 hours before the workout).

If you have to train in the morning (I HATE IT and try to avoid at), I would recommend fast carbs and whey at soon as you wake up, and depanding on what time you train after waking up it may affect your nutrition. If I wake up 2 hours before actual weight training I would eat some complex carbs immediately after waking up with whey, and they 20min before workout simple carbs with whey..

That's regarding nutrition, but I personally found my CNS to be the culprit of my morning workouts. Nothing can take care of that better than 25mg-37.5mg of Ephedrine HCL, and you can add 200mg caffeine and some salbutamol tabs and yohimbine for a better effect.. makes me a superman even in the morning ;)

good advice

Good advice thanks guys... Gonna try this tomorrow. Your right Junk, I know I wont have the energy like I do in the evening or afternoons. I am not a morning person at all. Thinking on taking some T-REx in a big cup of iced green tea, (3 green tea bags, and honey, and lemon, poured over ice), and some whey. But like jatca suggested, maybe the change will do me good. I was always under the impression that I was training during a peak test release time (around 8pm), but it should be the same in the morning too.

I love this site, always full of great advice. Thanks guys. K shower coming around.

JatCa, I didnt see your post, I will look it up, I am doing dvar (dbol and var lol) right now. Talk about strength gains. With the NPP, its pretty sweet. I will check your thread. Thanks for the advice bro, greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mavy

Mavy,

I was in your position. Always worked out in the evenings, (despised working out in the morning). Then my job forced be into it. The first few weeks were tough then I got used to it. That was a few years ago. I really got to like it. Hardest part of my day was first and I got it out of the way while I was rested and fresh. Liked that 'up' feeling going to work after a good workout. Now my job, (and personal life) require that I find the time anywhere, (morning, evening, or sometimes even the middle of the night...) Tell you the truth, there's pros and cons to each but overall I get good results regardless... One thing, I haven't noticed a diff either way, (energy wise) regardless of wether I pound a shake in the morning or go empty. My feeling is that you're using what's stored in the muscle from previous meals anyway... But like we all know, you just gotta try it and see if it works for you.

I used to get up at 6am have a glass of water and supplements then train for an hour in the AM, then have a fairly big postworkout meal. I didn't have to work til 8:30AM and I used the apt complex gym which was right downstairs so it wasn't bad.
