Ok. I am pissed off beyond all beleif.
I get another email in my box from some newbie weightlifters asking me for steroid advice. I hope those people are reading this now.
--------------------------------------------
Me - Ok, how long have you been training?
Him - 3 month! And I want to make gains come again.
-----------------------------------------

Something like that makes me sad. Using steroids so early is just bad. Maybe after 4-10 years, but not after 3 month! If people get dissatisfied with their results so quickly, then they should not lift weights!
If you stop and can't find every little problem in your way, then you have no chances of fighting bigger problems.

And this week I have this obsessed kid who just started to work out (few month ago). Now he asks me for advice I can give him about Creatine. I told him that it is too early for him, that he does not need it at this moment. HE DOES NOT LISTEN! I hope he did not start to workout because of me. Coz I can see him 1 year from now taking ANADROL-50 just to gain extra 5 pounds of muscle.... ooops i meant...flab. Did I say flab? He is kinda chubby, definately not a mesomorph. Yet he insists that because he is German, that he has good genes in him and that he will succeed. UMM... I looked better than him BEFORE I STARTED TO WORKOUT.
He has no progress, and does not know what intensity is.... From his comments I realize that he does not like big compound movements - and that is what keeps him from more muscle mass...

And did I tell you those people who train arms and chest all the time yet don't do squats or deadlifts?

I think I said enough for now... It is amusing that I get questions regarding training/steroids... DAMN I DID NOT ASK FOR IT! In such situations being a steroid dealer is NICE! Imagine how much clients would I be able to get if I would try to find buyers!
Too bad I am not a steroid dealer...

Anyhow, what do you think?

i think creatine might be okay, even for a newbie. ;)

But I also think that a lot of people get impatient, and want results YESTERDAY. it's a shame; this is what supplement companies prey on. If people would actually train RIGHT, EAT right, etc., they'd probably be making progress they never thought possible. They're trying to fly before they've learned to walk. Sad.

I believe going natural or not it takes a change of lifestyle to achieve the gains you want in the gym. When I started my whole lifestyle changed, my eating habits, sleep habits etc etc. It's easy to suffer from "I want to be huge yesterday" syndrome I suffer from it 2. The magazines make it seem one workout away...I don't think they let you know that to build a nice bodybuilding base will take up to five years. We live in a microwave, vending machine society.....I know you all understand 2. Please have patience and show newbies the way the truth and the SQUAT RACK!!! :)

Peace n Love 2 Ya
==================================================
Peace cause that hate stuff'll kill ya!!!

A lot of people will talk the talk, very few walk the walk.

I wish I had a dime for every time a newbie came up to me in the gym and asked me what I ate, what I did for biceps, etc. I'm usually a nice guy, so I stop to tell them what they need to know but I know that 95% are going to quit within a month because they don't see the immediate gains they are expecting. This lifestyle takes mental fortitude and a long-term desire to better yourself that must drive you everday, in all aspects of your life.

Everybody flips through the magazines and goes, "That's what I wanna look like!" pointing at a pic of Shawn Ray or Frank Sepe. Damn that's irritating! I wanna go, "NO SHIT, DUDE! Who DOESN'T want to look like that?!?" You gotta pay the price, be patient, sacrfice, and stay hungry. BB is like anything else in life...you only get out of it what you put into it.

One of my pet peeves is guys that come in the gym and never get out of first gear. They almost never train to failure, spend 10 minutes between sets talking to their buddies, and eat Burger King everyday. Then after all that shit, they have the fucking audacity to ask me why they "aren't making any gains lately." DAMMIT! Do these people think the world owes them something?!? You think a big set of delts and cannonball bis are just gonna automatically sprout on your body just cuz you "own a gym membership and go 4 times a week" ?!?! Yes, I'm sorry but if you want results you're actually gonna have to put some hard work and effort into the process and, yes, unfortunately it's going to hurt some...okay a lot, but if BB is in your blood, you'll learn to find the pain euphoric, hehe!! You might even *gasp* start looking forward to the pain/pleasure that training a muscle group into oblivion brings. Heaven forbid that some of these people learn the hard work = benefits equation by actually doing something on their own.

Fuckin' pussies. I can't stand that shit.

I've had so much good advice from you guys both directly and via the search and ive been working out now for 1 month without using creatine and having 1 protein shake a day and although ive not notice any gains yet, I feel much better and seem to have a lot more energy. Ive changed my diet and eat a lot more than I used to but am eating clean. Although im still new I agree that it is easy for the newbie to get impatient and expect mammoth gains within the first week... heck, when I attempted weightsa about 3 years ago for the 1st time I did and gave up after a month. This time ive found a training style that suits me and keeps me interested and also is giving me energy. I'd never even think of steroids since I hate needles so id only ever go with whats on offer at the local GNC LOL but ive heard that even with ROIDS you still need to work hard and then some so its not as if its an instant set of muscles anyhow.

For any newbies... (i still am :) ) Be patient and concertrate on good form, eat clean and eat lots and dont give up... lots of support here but use the search before posting newbie type questions.... there are hundreds of archived topics that are excellent sources of information esp. for beging routines and diets etc...

Keep cool guys... and keep lifting !!!

Stubby,
If you find this lifestyle rewarding and you enjoy the fact that discipline and hard work will pay off, then you are halfway there. If you learn to love training, you will stay in the game through the plateaus...discouragement will never invade your attitude.

IMO, a pump is the most euphric of any high I've ever known. With all that blood pumping, neurons firing, muscle tissue engorges with fresh blood, veins start opening up, endomorphins start flowing...yeah! You just know you're training a muscle group into submission! Damn, it's great!

It doesn't have to be easy bro. In fact, it won't be...but that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. If you can live this lifestyle, you'll know it right off. Stay tough.

I find that supplements are more of a mental thing for me (I take creatine, chromium picolinate, protein, and multivitamins). When I take supplements they get me in a weight-lifting mindset. Whether they are effective in the long-run or not is up for debate, but they increase my intensity much in the same way as listening to certain types of music increases my intensity during lifting. I also feel that supplementation after about a year of natural training is the way to go. It forces you to discipline yourself before you proceed to assist your development with supplements.

The biggest detrimental factor here is other people, most of the time they get in your way, either conciously or sub-conciously, you are always thinking "I cant drink that amount of water or eat food that often, what will people think etc etc"

Ive seen people in the gym stare at other people just because they are sweating more than they are and then that person looks all self-concious, oh no i'm sweating more, I must be a freak.

what you do is for you and only you, you should not do anything that is for anyone else. the same goes for sticking to bb, let people comment about you, take the piss, but this is the intermedium, small steps make up for large gains longterm, if everything was short coming there would be no point doing it.

Dont think follower, think leader!!!

My housemate is always asking me what routines I do, I tell him I got alot of them from good peoples advice from this board, he says oh I must give up beer and I am going to get real fit like you, but he never does, he starts then stops, then starts. stops. its not working, hmmm wonder why. I keep telling he is wasting his money in the gym. months roll by.

The key is you keep doing while they keep thinking about doing.

I'm one of those freaks. Sweatin like a bitch in heat at 6 in the morning definitly takes dedication. I know you all have wondered how anyone can be intense at that time of the morning. It is a major challenge, but that is when I have the time, and that is one way to keep going because I have nothing to get in my way. My wife sure as hell isn't awake to ask me to help her do something.

I'm not exactly a newbie, newbie but I do respect and wish to continue learning and laughing my ass off thanks to the vets and whacko's on this board.

In my professional life, I get asked the same damn questions over and over again but what worse is they come from the same few people.
Hang in there. Not all of us are in the below situation.

my point of view

i found this thread researching, and find that i have to throw my point of view into the fray, and possibly resurrect this issue.

this shit is not easy, the previous posts can tell you that, and from my own point of view, i have been on both sides of the fence. when i first got into the gym, it was because i was ridiculed of the fact that i was starting to develop soemthing of a gut. my first few months in the gym were nothing but me treading water, because i was making no advancementslowly but surely, i started to realize you earn perfection. you don't purchase it. it doesn't come in a bottle. it doesn't come in a powder. it doesn't come in a pill or drink. perfection comes from one thing, and that is your mindset. you have to believe you will succeed, and you must be williing to push your body beyond the limits of pain to achieve it.

willipower is the most important supplement in the gym, and it is also the hardest thing to obtain. you have to ask yourself whether or not you have it in you.

I have had several opportunitys as of late to begiin juicing. but i have not for several reasons. #1 is my girlfriend. I have enough respect for her to not potentially damage my body. My future is more important than any physique that i could obtain. I hope to eventually have someone carry on my blood lines, and riskiing some sort of damage to a child is something i could never forgive myself for. #2 is the fact that in 10 years, i want o look at myself in the mirror and know that my body is MINE, not some illegally obtained mutation that iwas not patient to wait and obtain. I was recently disappointed to learn that several people at my gym have been juicing, one of whom i could say i have always looked up, admiring his dedication and will to build the best body that was within his capabilities. I had always looked up to him, because he had started at about the same spot i had. Another suprised me, but not really. I was actually surprised that it took him this long to lose faith in his own abilities. This is the problem most steroid users find themselves confronted with. They are unwilling to let nature build them, or they feel that they have hit a plateau. A "plateau" is whatever you make of it. If you hit a wall, knock the damn thing down, down climb an artificial ladder over it.

But the most important reason that i don't juice is because i believe in myself. I have the will to not give up. I am not the biggest guy in the gym, but i have one of the better overall physiques. I have worked my ass off to keep everything symetrical. And while i am by no means perfect, my body does not have one overpowering part, like a huge upperbody, and no legs, or thivk legs and no chest back oe delts. I have pictures on the traingin board, and you can look for yourself. Like i said, i'm not the biggest, but i understand that these things take time.

If you can invest in one supplement, make it your own mindset, because nothing else is worht a damn withouut it.

i cam now peacefully climb off of my soapbox and shutup(lol). And i am 23, so i know i have plenty of time to work on myself.:p
