I seen an ad in the Muscle and Fitness magazine today about Solid Protein bars, they have 8 flavors. The chocolate-mint sounded pretty tasty to me. I've tried some protein bars before, and I can't seem to acquire a taste for them. There's only 1 gram of sugar, and 34 grams of protein. Has anyone ever tried these before? If you have, I'd like to know what you thought. Thanks! ;)

more carbs than u think

are there any protein bars with low carbs? i had a look at the ingredients and they dont list some of them as carbs...well in australia anyway..they can get away with saying it has 2g carbs but really has 12. Anyone have any info on this?

Azia baby,,,get pure protein Smores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm sooooo good,,,,,i like the lemon chiffon ones also,,but defitnityl the smores!!! they are very addicting

Probably the glycerol that gets excluded. It is processed like glucose, but doesn't raise blood sugar or insulin.

I guess my main concern is the dry taste they have. It makes me gag, unless I have a big bottle of water to wash it down with.

I tried "Pure Protein" the strawberry cheesecake...uff that that good.
I also bought the blueberry cheesecake and the s'mores. I have them there for one of those days that I have long meatings and need to eat something .

w6..your right..so is it ok to still have them as a low-carb snack/meal? or is it always better to have 'real' food?

solid protein.......peanut butter one is kick ass.. i think the cherry one is too sweet.

pure protein....they're all pretty good.... smores...blueberry cheescake.....

myoplex low carb .........cookies and cream... YUMMMMM!

humm what else.... i also like worldwide protein "cookies" .... ONLY the peanut butter one though. its OK but i like the calorie/protein/carb/fat count of it a lot so i stick to that one most of the time.

aziaaaaaaaaaaaaaa............... !! **kisses** ...

Real food is always better than having a protein bar..but if you have to its better than not getting anything in you at all...Im w/ Kbgrl...Myoplex cookies and cream are SO...GOOD!!!

Yep. So personally, if I eat any protein bars, I count the glycerol in them as carbohydrates (even though technically they aren't, but they still count as calories). Also, I recently ran across this:

Glycerol Metabolism

The predominant source of glycerol is adipose tissue. This molecule is the backbone for the triacylglycerols. Following release of the fatty acid portions of triacylglycerols the glycerol backbone is transported to the liver where it it phosphorylated by glycerol kinase yielding glycerol-3-phosphate. Glycerol-3-phosphate is oxidized to DHAP by glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase. DHAP then enters the glycolytic if the liver cell needs energy. However, the more likely fate of glycerol is to enter the gluconeogenesis pathway in order for the liver to produce glucose for use by the rest of the body.

So, question, W6, how does it enter the gluconeogenesis pathway without raising blood sugar? I was thinking that most sugars (and glycerol being a sugar alchohol) can be reduced and reformed as serum glucose. Is that not true?

Met-RX protein plus have a lot of protein and taste great, only problem is they come out the other end as easy as they go down. Great for a postworkout posthangover snack though.

solid protein bars are my fav! the smores and the cookie dough chip...

i'm telling ya....freeze them!! they taste soooo much better and not as chalky

my fav is the designer protein bars.. absberry and triplemint!!!

BUT now i stick to shakes only... less sugar :)

I have to chime in on the low carb myoplex cookies and cream bars. They are heaven. I was eating one last week and a coworker asked if she could try it-- she bought some because she liked them so much.

I had a pure protein smores bar yesterday. I guess I'll have to try the lemon chiffon. I love lemon flavor but I've had some traumatic experiences thus far with lemon protein bars.

I don't rely on bars as a staple of my diet but when I'm in a rush, it's great to have a bunch of them in my car. I figure that food is better but a bar is better than nothing at all. Plus there's not a lot of low carb high protein food around the vending machines at work.

Solid Protein Bars Review

My personal review of Natures Best Solid Protein Bars:
- Take any flavor, drop in toilet
- Wait 10 minutes
- Have friend look in toilet, ask them what they see

This will give you a good idea of how they taste. The only bar I semi-enjoy are Designer Protein bars.. Any other low-carb bar make me mad as hell, almost as bad as Halo.

hahaha LMAO!!!!!

I read the FDA now requires companies to post the glycerol content as a carb. THe values never added up, protein, carbs, fats unless you account for the glycerol.
