solid food after workout

ESQ

what is the real difference between the 2. i know the shake is absorbed quicker, but how much better. i always drink a shake but what if you have to workout before a lunch meeting or something to that effect. is solid food a bad choice if you have to do it.

A shake is much better. Dextrose/Whey is what you want after a hard workout, will get absorbed a lot faster then solid food. Try and save the solid meal for you second PW meal, perhaps 1.5 hours after your shake.

bad choice if you have to? no way. after a good workout your body needs nutrients, if you cant have a shake eat my man no problemo. i eat before the gym, have a shake in the car on my way home, and then proceed to stuff my neck the minute i walk in the door at home.

I cant see how solid food would be bad, or even how it wouldnt be better then a shake. Evolutionally we werent running around hunting and drinking protien shakes. Sure a shake might be convienent and provide immediate nutrition, but if you can get a solid meal in fast enough that should be at least as good. I read a few articles saying that you should have a protien shake within 20 minutes of ending a work out just so you put something in your body, then within 2 hours max have some kind of high protien meal like steak or chicken.

If I have solid foods after working out I usually get stuff that digests easy and quick, like white rice with egg whites. But, to cut through all the details, eating solid food after a workout is okay.
