Sodium

Since most of my diet is lean meats and vegetables, and because most sauces and dressings are off limits, I tend to use a good amount of seasonings on meats (especially chicken and fish). I mean come on, this stuff can be pretty damn flavorless without them. However, that means I'm probably getting too much sodium in my diet.

So, other than water retention, is sodium all that bad for you?

Just the general bad other bad health effects of sodium, for the same reasons that some people have to look for low sodium foods ect... In your situation probably the only negative effect is going to be a bit of water retention. Unlike the intrained you actually sweat through grueling workouts that deplete your sodium. Other don't have as much of a means for releasing sodium so there health is more at risk since it just builds and builds and is not cleansed out as often as BBuilders.

Generally it doesn't do us any harm except the waterweight. If that doesn't bother you bon apetite.

an alternative to store bought seasonings... chop up your own from basil, garlic, cilantro, oregano, onion, etc... fresh herbs are pretty potent & add a lot of flavor
Mrs. Dash & other salt-free mixes are ok if no time to make your own
drizzling the healthy oils onto foods (after cooked of course) then the seasoning makes them not so blah... just a few ideas :)
