So I had this dream....

I had an f'ed up dream last night. Apparently I was some sort of clandestine "guy you go to when you don't know who to go to" type guy. Some company hired another clandestine dude to perform some operation; he needed to get them a submarine but didn't know how to do that so he called me in the job. Apparently despite the fact that I was a clandestine "guy you go to when you don't know who to go to" type guy I didn't know how much to charge them for my services. It has to be enough to justify becoming a bad guy and live off for a few years til the next job. So we're going around doing our sneaky stuff and all the while I'm trying to figure whether to bill by the job or by the hour; mileage from my house to their HQ to "the spot", etc, etc.

Later I ask the company why they called me in on this job and they're like because if we get caught you're going to be the scapegoat and go to jail, not us. I'm like crap, now I have to factor the risk of going to jail into my rate. So I'm doing the standard contractor calculations of annual salary divided by 2,080 hours then multiply that by three. Can't figure out what annual salary to use. Do I bill them upfront for expenses and at the end for my services? Of course we're doing all our sneaky stuff at night and I'm a single father so I have to figure out how to leave Junior home alone without raising the ire of child protecive services and shit.

How do those guys figure that shit out anyway?

You're rehashing your job in your sleep. And it sounds like you have a really aggrivating job? Like you have to deal with a lot of situations where you feel like you're making a lot of decisions but don't feel generally confident about things, they need you, you're the person they turn to in an emergency, but it sounds like you don't feel appreciated in what you do, sort of like the company would throw you under the bus in a heartbeat.

Oh, the clandestine part? IRL they stuffed you in that hole of an office with no windows, remember? They've got you hidden away.

Maybe, but 95% of my dreams are about being a sports hero or sex...usually both.

Then 95% of your dreams are what I call "flight of fancy" dreams.

It's been my observation that there are basically (what I consider) four dream categories:
1. Flights of fancy. These don't necessarily mean much of anything (sometimes dreaming you're having sex just means your horny, y'know?) These are often pleasant, occasionally the cross into nightmares, particularly when they combine with category #2.

2. Rehash of the day. One or several things that happened during the day intrudes into the dream state. In this case, particularly if you are stressed, the dreams can become dark or frightening or generally unpleasant.

3. I'm sending you a message. This is your subconscious communicating something to you. It could be a problem that you're not able to resolve, it could be something you're not consciously feeling badly about but is disturbing. Frequently recurring dreams fall into this category.

4. Other. This crosses into the realm of interacting with people who have crossed over or even precognitive dreams.

lol what kind of fucked up sports did you learn at camp?
You play sports at camp? I thought you just learned outdoorsy stuff. Black people don't go to camp. Matter of fact I don't know anyone that ever went to summer camp but I was military brat so we were already 'away' as it was.

My dreams usually involve flying, then suddenly finding myself in a precarious position. That, or trying to do my job in impossible situations with inadequate tools. They're always stressful.

MM is good at this. I'd go with what she said.
I couldn't concentrate after the second clandestine dude.
I'm happy I don't remember my dreams.

In a plane or Superman style?

In a plane or Superman style?

Superman style. Sometimes I just hover above the ground, but after I've mastered that then I can soar to greater heights, but I don't think I've ever mastered getting back down.

I actually put flying dreams into the "other" category. Most of the time you really are travelling, either out of your body or psychically on the astral plane.

Lucky. I've only had one flying dream in my entire life.

But since you're an atheist and don't believe in a soul or astral plane we'll say flying is a category #1 for you, literally a "flight of fancy."

you guys have cool dreams. Im usually involved in some kind of conflict or struggle(internal and external) in the dream. i generally can't remember details about the struggle though. I also have 'drug dreams' where i acquire a certain drug and as im about to get high i wake up. And look over on my nightstand thinking magically the drug will be there. The feelings and images in those dreams are so vivid its torturous as a recovering addict.

Wow. it seems like the only dreams i remember are more like nightmares. huh

I hate when that happens. Ever since I was little if I fall asleep with my head turned to the right I will ALWAYS have dreams that range in various degrees of unpleasantness (I've actually never had what I consider a nightmare, I think of those as something you wake up physically thrashing and/or crying out). I think the most disturbing ones are where I die.

Take it as I'm saying it, I've noticed the more anxious/insecure you are in life, particularly if you try to keep it hidden, the more tendency you have to unpleasant dreams.

The dream was actually irritating. I never found out what exactly the big job was; the whole focus of it was figuring out how much to charge them. I usually dream about whatever I was thinking of when I fell asleep, which as I said is 95% sports, sex and/or winning the lottery.

I dont think I dream anymore.

It's better this way I believe. Dreaming can be a lot of work.
