How many real websites are there that people never see? I am sure millions possibly billions

and that compares to the amount of myspace pages that people never see.. how?
your logic is flawed, but i understand what you're trying to say.
there are more people on the internet as a whole, than there are on myspace alone. It's common sense. Add to that, the fact that myspace IS way more popular among musicians and KIDS - it narrows down the target audience.

i'm not saying its not a great place for its purpose, but it's limited. like dialtone said, its a tool to be used IN CONJUCTION with REAL webspace.

well if you're going to go that route- then if there are 100+ million on myspace, then there are even more on the net as a whole.
so in that case, a real WEBSITE would reach way more than myspace.

if your audience is mostly musicians and highschool/college age kids, then go for it...

While that is true, it's also true that it's overwhelmingly eaiser to reach people on myspace than creating your own "out there" website and then fumbling around trying to get people to visit it.

I was duped into getting onto myspace by my wife last May. Not even doing anything in particular, I have over three thousand views. Keep in mind I reject 95% of all people who bother requesting me, and don't have any reason to advertise (because I have nothing to sell).

So roughly 300+ visits a month, or 10+ a day, for doing nothing. AT all.

Now imagine if a bit of advertising is done. Just a tiny bit. it doesn't take long to see how much easier this can work as opposed to say, going at it the "traditional" way.

Keep in mind that's another one of the reasons facebook opened itself up to the general public. Like it or or hate it, this works.
