So...I can only install Windows XP Pro...once?

test boy ii

New member
I lost two hard drives this year. So I bought XP Pro. Worked great the first time.

Second time, Microsoft said it had already been used once.

XP has to be validated within 30 days...then it shuts itself down apparently.

This sucks.

Losing a hard drive is bad enough. Plus you have to buy a new operating system everythime.

I can't stand all of the junk that comes with computer system recovery CD's.

Anything I can do to get around this problem? Other than buying yet another Windows OS?

don't even get me started on this, I will have a fucking panic attack and an aneurysm and just thinking about this topic makes me so pissed off I don't even care that I don't know how to misspell aneurism I almost threatened a Dell tech support guys life on this topic and vowed to do several other things I've never thought about doing in my life in other words I feel your pain. if I told you this story you'd flip, not many more things have made me that pissed off and I realize from that point of view my life is not bad but GOD DAMN

I have a pirated, I mean comp, version I have installed at least 3 times. Not sure if it is true.

So I can get a pirtaed, I mean comp version somewhere....maybe?

I do not want to buy another XP Pro.

I've got Windows 98....maybe I should load that.

The power company was so bad that I renamed the street...generator alley. Most houses had to buy a generator to offset the constant loss of power for hours at a time.

The power company kneew exactly what the problem was. The techs would come out and point in the direction of the fault in the cable. But they would not fix the cable.

I blew one day. I threatened that group of techs with injury.

Power company techs see people blowing up all of the time. But one tech was brand new. He called the cops.

The sheriff showed up and seemed sympathetic. People do tend to blow when they have no power for 4-5 hours every couple weeks. Gets cold in the winter. Happens at night so you can't see.

I hear I can't go to Canada now. I blew up at the power company.

They finally fixed the cable though. Took 1/2 day to replace the bad piece.

We are evaluated more by what we say than by what we do. It is easier to prosecute words sice everyone blows once in a while.

calm down, people.

install your copies of xp, download a wga crack, and sit back on your fully functioning copy of windows.

hell, vista is out now anyways. be the first one on EF running it.

test boy, trust the DT on this one. Do the activation by phone. You'll get some schmoe in India. They'll ask you if you've installed this copy on any other computers. Just say "my hard drive died so i'm reinstalling on the same computer again"...then STFU. They will ask you again how many other computers you've installed this copy on. Say "as far as I know none"...then STFU. They will then give you an activation code.

Well I read this about 5 minutes too late. Felt I was a high school kid caught with a beer. They didn't give the activation code.

testboi,

www.isohunt.com, www.demonoid.com.

you already purchased it, so you would just be downloading a backup of your current cd-r's

Well...that a caused a fairly mean blue screen/shutdown.

Came back to life and wanted to let Microsoft know about it. I begged off.

Damn....I just want my computer to work. It was Microsoft updates that caused the hard drive heart attack. My old hard drive was thrashing around for 2 hours during all of the updates.

I could just re-install the system recovery Cds I think. I hate all the software that adds with it.

reinstall then call MS again, biatch. I have used the same disc and called them 3-4 times.

lol.....the second time I tried for an internet activation...they caved in and granted it. Took 6 seconds. Strange indeed.

They know 99% of the thieves won't call, so if you're calling you're probably legit.....snicker.

I would have to tell my S&B boys. But yes. You can get this figured out with a call I suppose.

if its OEM then you can only have it on one system. It remembers the hardware of the system you installed it on, and it can only be installed on that system in the future, with the same basic hardware (motherboard/processor) BUT if the motherboard dies in the system or something, you can call them and explain and they'll usually activate it again.

I can only imagine! haha, microsoft and their activation hassle.

Tell me the story! :) It would actually make for a great new thread. or you can just give me the summary.

Torrents might bea good thing. I have spent a fortune on software that can only be installed a certain # of times. This may make it easier.

However....I always wonder how legal stuff is. If I bought the CD, it 'should' be OK.

I got tired of downloading software and worrying about virii, activation, cracks, etc. I switched to Ubuntu Linux at home and I don't miss anything. I was never much of a gamer.

WTF are you doing to those hardrives? Do you have enough cooling to them? You aren't one of those guys who uses 4 raptors in a raid-0 stacked on top of each other with no cooling in the front of the case are you? Hehe

I bought the computers as refurbished.

I think the previous owners racked up many a mile on the hard drives.

I have six computers that I use.

Did you call the validation number?

Calling it in did not work. Interent activation worked....the second time.

I buy a lot of software...this is the only one that can only be used once...that I know of. Somehow I was able to use it twice...I think.
