Snapping in joints

I work as a personal trainer, and this kid at my gym (18 years old) has the loudest snapping in his knees i have ever heard. I mean every rep on stuff like squats and legpresses makes his knees pop. He also tells me it hurts, so i got him an appointment at a doc. He said "its not dangerous"... so i pushed it, and got him an xray, nothing...

So my question is, are there any supplements that can strenghten his joints, or maybe lubricate them in a way. Because it sounds like he got no joint fluid at all.
 
The noise is usually excaping gas pockets.

The medical term is audible cavitation.

Niacin and creatine helps to flush and hydrate.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin too.
 
Glucosamine Chondroitin works as far as supplements go and stretching post exercise will help eliminate this from continuing
 
My knees crack a lot, and it used to hurt when I was 16-18. I incorporated proper squats into my routine and though they still crack there is no pain.
 
I also have what you call "snapping" ... sounds more like a "pop" sometimes though. I have it in my knees and elbows... shoulders during overhead presses too, it's more of an annoyance for me than anything else... no pain. I've been meaning to incorporate some glucosamine into my supp. regimine I'll try to remember to post here if I have any reduction of "pop" or "snapping" from my joints.
