Smells and Memories..

Isn't it strange how those two are related? I just walked by some woman on my floor and she had this perfume on that I recognized.. it reminded me of a person I was comfortable with (but not in my family) some time ago.. I have no idea who I could be thinking of but this feeling of comfort and happy memories kind of set in.. strange stuff I tell ya. :D

Yeah, I've had the exact thing happen (sorta).. a guy walked by me in the mall with a cologne I recognized..but bad memories.. I was anxious for a while afterwards. :worried:

yep I've seen a few girls start crying when they smell their ex-boyfriends cologne on someone else

I read something about how scent and memories are the strongest connection but I don't remember why. but most of what you think you 'taste' is actually smell. it's really too bad I can't remember many things, it prevents me from contributing.

I swear I started typing my response before I saw you wrote that!!!

when I smell certain perfumes from my past I am instantly taken there and probably walk with a grin on my face ;)

:) I believe ya. That's why it should be a rule that jerks cannot wear great cologne. It forever ruins that cologne via the bad association.

That is soo true, I have woman in the past ask me to stop wearing certain colognes due to bad memories it has brought up.

I have yet to have this happen with perfume smells and hope it don't ever :worried:

Just last night the cook at the bar was wearing one of the colognes my ex does no bad memories there just get me a bit excited. :qt:

hmm.. and what cologne might that be? :D

You guys are stealing this from that commercial that says "smell is the sense most connected with memory...how will YOU be remembered?" (or something to that effect).

I think it stems from the amygdilous gland that relates smells to the brains memory center. Probably developed as a survival technique during the course of human evolution. Probably from when we weren't a vision sensory dominant specie. So that we would stay away from animals, foods, or natural occuring dangers without having to visually recognize them.

When I worked at a store a few years back, I once got a stiffy out of nowhere and became real horny, I did not know why. After about 5 mins. I realized this woman walked in wearing the same perfume of this chick I used to "see". Still happens to this day (with her and other ex's smells) but now I'm aware of the memory of smell

I like it when I smell an ex girlfriends perfume.
Girfriends always smell good.

Unlike the poopie thread a few days ago. I now associate poopies with the orange bathroom spray at work.

And I appologize for completly changing the good thoughts of this wonderful thread :)
