Hello All,

I am a school teacher and one of the pupils has really pissed me off by handing in work that he blatently plagerised off the internet. Its word for word. Anyhow, have decided to give him a second chance. However, its about his 5th or 6 th chance. I want to say something smart to him tomorrow when I throw him a 24 hour lifeline to re-submit. I want to say "You've had more second chances than.....", but what do I say?

Karma for anything half decent!

What grade do you teach? High school?

I can't think of any brilliant witty lines right now but this reminds me of this kid who was in my grade 12 world history class. We had a group assignment and he brought his part and it was clearly plagarised. He kept telling us over and over, 'No, I did it. It's not plagiarised.' Anyway, he goes and hands his part in to our teacher, and a few minutes later the teacher calls him over. He comes back to the table and we're like, 'What happened?' and he goes, 'I gotta redo it cuz I plagarised it.' Turns out, he had plagarised it and then put the URL for the web site he got the information from in the bibliography. When the teacher called him over, he had the web site open on his computer screen and was like, 'Did you write this yourself?' LOL

Sounds like something my guys would do! He has really got on my tits this time. They are Year 12, which in England would be pupils 16 - 17 Years old and in their second last year of High School. Everyone else has worked hard, but as usual, someone tried to take the piss!

Why don't you type part of his paper in google, get the website, and print the whole thing out for him?

It depends on the age of the kid. You could always use something political, but not many, at least younger kids, will get it. (IE. more chances than bill clinton and his definition of "sexual relations"...)

Also depends if you cuss in front of them. I personally am a fan of the "box of smashed assholes" remark, you can about use it anywhere and its pretty funny. Just be creative with it.

Other non-cussing alternatives... You could just say something like "Hey, next time just print off the website for me and I'll just give you your F right on the spot, it makes things easier for the both of us." or "If I wanted to see you write a great paper, I could have plagarized it myself." or " Hey, you suck at plagarizing. You need to work on not making it so blatantly obvious."

Hope these are helpful, I'll try to come up with more later ;)

This is the kind of guy who comes in all guns blazing and ready to put you right back into your box, but also has a great sence of humour and that's how I work him. I make my point, throw in a few light hearted remarks about what is usually a serious situation (like the time he told me his was "too fucking drunk last night" to do his homework!) and I always get a good responce back. But this time - this time I'm pissed!!!

So you're looking for something more hardcore that simply proving him wrong...hmm...

i hope hes a member on EF. This way when u tell him your line (that you didnt come up with) for plagerizing his paper he hands you this thread on a print out and says you got it POT.

Tell the young man that since he is going to spend the rest of his life hauling garbage that he might as well bypass you and take his next plagiarized paper right to the circular file.

The last time anyone hired a plagiarist, the uniform was a cincture and a robe, and I doubt you'd like the hours.

kids don't know what sort of teachers they're up against these days......when i was at school i would have never of guessed that my English teacher might have been taking advice on-line for what he was going to say to me the next day

as a subtle hint you could always upload what you want to say to him onto the internet and give him the link?

"More second chances than... you deserve."

Don't blow it by trying in vain to be hip.

You've had more second chances than Cher's career.

fuckin' internet era
when I was a student we had to plagiarize the old-fashioned way
go to a fricken library
visit the card catalog
check out books and sift through periodicals , get some good material
use it
put the other shit in the bibliography
damn it was work

no damn word processors either
you had to pay some chick to type that shit up

I'd beat him like a red headed step child.. thats the only way i learn my lessons

note people he's in the UK
just tell him something that makes his effort look French
